Help!!!

Post by UD 1877 »

FWIW whenever you think you have problems. Take a look at the Detroit Titans… For starters the Sisters took over 30+ years ago, and the school’s branding has been a hot mess ever since!!

Our AD has been a mess for 10 years. Prior to that we had a Secretary who was also a graduate, and become the AD. Let’s just say she was not very Catholic like when she received the increase in pay!

The department itself a hot mess for 10+ years. New University Prez wants basketball to succeed; however, is shy about firing anyone.

LU at least scratched checks and got out of the Horizon League aka HELL!

Talk of allowing our coach to last another year. On pace for an Ofer - 2023-2024 season!!

Stopped posting on the Detroit board. The slappies did not like the reality checks. At least your community has healthy discussions!

With the whole new college sports landscape, maybe the Jesuit community would pull its $$ together! Detroit would only receive half help as the Sisters have taken control of our University…

Any suggestions?

I feel your pain. We were in the wilderness a long time. After the Alfredrick Hughes era ended, we were rudderless for a long time. We were very fortunate when Dr. Rooney took over. She was a huge basketball fan and made changes and brought in quality people, spent the money and encouraged the jump to the MVC. She also allocated the funding needed. Loyola owes her a debt of gratitude for sure.

Hopefully, your new President will make some moves. Good sports teams have a great affect on the school in general. Our enrollment jumped after the Final Four and the overall pride in LUC has been as high as I have ever seen it. I enrolled in 1980 and graduated in 1984 from the business school and went to law school at LUC graduating in 1987. So over 40 plus years I have seen the whole spectrum here.

still have visions of a Catholic Midwest League...(i no longer consider ND as Catholic) and always have Detroit in the group. We had a nice relationship with UD when we were brothers in the Butler dominated Horizon. Hope things are on the uptick,,,,only takes one person to get the ball moving.
Hope it turns around for you guys...How is Katie Archer our old women's b-ball coach doing at UD...

Can't answer the question as you would like, but possibly this press conference in the link below may shed some light? The new, at the time, young Loyola Athletic Director, explains her hiring of Porter Moser, and it is key. Even more so, there have been numerous interviews with Porter who explained that Loyola was patient with him and allowed him to build his program (it took 7 years to the final four) and did not fire him. As another Jesuit institution, I wish you the best of luck.

It seems to me that Father Garanzini initiated the resurection of Ramblers basketball, not Dr. Rooney. Certainly, she supported it agressively.
Let's go Braden!

You mention branding. Drop the Mercy and go back to University if Detroit. The Mercy makes it sound small and secondary. I hate to hear how difficult things are there for hoops. Hopefully you get leadership alignment.

TY for the feedback! Many want the drop of Mercy… Sisters however are on the board and have rule of the roost for the most part.

Looking very possible for 0-32, and with a little luck maybe 1-31 or 2-30. Very possible for NO changes at the AD & Coaching!

A post earlier asked about WBB Coach Kate. So far she is changing the culture for the better. Record has improved but still far from a full turn around.

Our Administrative leadership needs to step up and make a choice to make it better or not.

Good luck on the rest of the season!

FWIW - Detroit parted ways with Davis.

Contrary to the News writer the University is not cash strapped….

IF we had our xxxT together we would stroke a check to get into the A-10 and replace UMass.

State schools come in and before you know it you have the Horizon League 2.0!
