NET Rankings
First publication of the NET ratings are out today, and the Ramblers clock in at #25! However, the first version is typically known for being a little wonky due to small sample sizes.
Davidson at 54 and Vanderbilt at 84 are potential Quad 1 games if Vandy can get into the top 75.
Drake at 87, Missouri State at 128, SIU at 135, and ISUb at 148 round out the top half of the Valley. Rest of the league is sub-200.
DePaul at 94, Michigan State at 19, Auburn at 16 and Arizona State at 221 round out our other notable opponents thus far.
The A10 has 7 teams in the top 100 (Davidson, SLU, VCU, Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure, Dayton, Richmond).

Re: NET Rankings
Says a lot when the A-10 has seven teams in the top 100 in what many of their fans are calling a "down year," while the Valley has only two teams in the top 100 in what was supposed to be a banner year for the conference.
#25 is fantastic. I think we need to win out the rest of our non-conf to even have thoughts about a potential at-large. @Vandy and @Davidson will both be tough. Norfolk is no slouch this year either

Re: NET Rankings
It looks like to maintain a good NET Ranking through conference play we're going to have to have a Plus 10 margin of victory in most MVC games.

Re: NET Rankings
Apparently they removed the margin of victory component from the formula. However, it's still a block box that they won't share the formula for.swellafelon wrote:It looks like to maintain a good NET Ranking through conference play we're going to have to have a Plus 10 margin of victory in most MVC games.
Re: NET Rankings
Certainly not much room for any losses...swellafelon wrote:It looks like to maintain a good NET Ranking through conference play we're going to have to have a Plus 10 margin of victory in most MVC games.

Small sample size for sure. At this point in the year, KenPom is usually a better metric. As season goes on the NET and KenPom start to track a bit closer. KenPom focuses on efficiency a bit more. Here is a current Ken Pom. Either way we are knocking on the door of being ranked. If we run the table until the conference starts we will be ranked. More importantly, making a case for at large bid.

Re: NET Rankings
I was irate about our non-con but it was a recipe for a good net ranking. Blow out cupcakes and then limit losses to good teams. I hate that is how it works because it's why no one will play us in gentile but the game is the game. We may end the season with 0 quad one wins though if Drake can't get it together or we lose to Vandy.
Re: NET Rankings
DePaul might be our best chance at a Quad 1...just need them in the top 75. Davidson, @Drake, and Vandy could also be Quad 1 if any of them end up in the top 75. I agree it's not looking good that any of them do though.
This season is becoming a perfect demonstration for why we needed to join the A-10. Not only will we have several Quad 1 opportunities in conference, but we will now have a much easier time scheduling tough non-conference games.
