2017 Recruiting Thread

Post by Blers »

Since it looks like we're gonna have at least one new addition for next season i figured I'd start a thread for 2017 Recruiting as well.

OFFERS:
Taylor Bruninga- 6'7 forward-Illinois Bluffs.
Interesting player, not quite sure how I feel about him. He plays in 1A down near where Matt Chastain used to play ball and puts up stupid numbers, he averaged 33 points, 11.5 rebounds and just under 2 blocks per game. He shot 60% from the field and 40 from 3... Similar to Chastain his recruitment really blew up late. Also similar to Chastain however, he isn't playing anyone too special. I wouldn't expect him to play down low in the Valley but he's also a knock down shooter from 3 and is a type of player Moser hasn't really had. He has offers from us, ISUr, UNI, Fort Wayne, and Eastern Illinois. Word is some schools want him to redshirt his first year, not sure where that leaves us. He'll be taking an official to Loyola at some point.

Mark Smith-6'4" Guard Edwardsville
Probably got to the party too late, big time guard will probably end up in the big ten.

Isaiah Coleman Lands- 6'0 Guard- La Luminere
Brother of the Illini's Jalen Coleman lands, plays for one of the best schools in the country. We offered a while back but there's been zero movement from any teams on his recruitment... may be going the prep school route to increase interest. Another doubtful case.

Tywon Pickford- 6'4 Guard- Maple Wood, MN
This is a weird case and i'm not even sure we offered him... he's on our verbalcommits page, but i haven't seen the offer sourced anywhere on twitter (usually VC will tweet out additions as well as how they are sourcing the offer, no such thing here). Looks like the classic Moser guard, long, can drive/shoot. Has offers from UNI, Tulane, South Dakota State, Ball State, San Diego.

Interest but No Offer
Tai Bibbs- Guard- 6'3 Guard- West Chicago
We've been watching Bibbs for a while, decommitted from Drake after their coaching change and was considered some what of a steal for them. Very athletic, can shoot off the dribble and drive... from what I've seen I'm very high on him. He's visited a game and we've watched him 3-4 times. He missed the all area team because of his teams struggles.

Thanks, Blers! Since we are still recruiting 2017, I wonder who will leave. Hopefully it all shakes out soon and fans can be made aware of it. Sucks to leave us hanging.

I understand departures not happening immediately after the season, but I think (hope?) Moser is recruiting more as a "just-in-case" rather than "I know I'm cutting someone looses" sense.

As for pure speculation, I could see Kirby, Granic, and maybe Tyson Smith be options to leave. I wouldn't be surprised if any of the freshmen transferred either.

Marques Townes retweeted a story about one of his former teammates from Fairleigh Dickinson who is transferring as a redshirt junior and will be immediately eligible next year.

Stephan Jiggetts is a 6'1" point guard who averaged 13 ppg and was named third team all conference.

Porter should take a close look at him.

We will be signing a guard. Swella is on to something and could be the missing link I heard about.

Also to clarify, I based my hope on going to a post season tourney based upon a discussion with a couple of players after they returned to the hotel after the SIU loss. They seemed very convinced the season was not over. Once again I am proven wrong.

Streak, by that do you mean we have found a guard to sign, or that we are targeting guards for the class?

Five new faces next year Townes, Krautwig,
Neuron, Chastain (off of an injury) and a new guard.
Who I don't know nor do I know who leaves.

In regards to Bruninga, it's worth noting some schools like UNI and ISUr are asking him to red shirt for his freshmen year (not sure if he counts as a scholarship while a redshirt). Roy Schmidt on twitter noted that Loyola is offering him a chance to play immediately on scholarship. And as of yesterday he still plans to visit Loyola. Not sure how this effects us in signing a guard/the state of our roster overall.

Best wishes to Mo wherever he ends up! Wonder if he'll get the chance to play with his brother at Montana State.

And that's one open scholarship for recruiting... will be interesting to see what happens with Vlatko as well.
