MIVA-geddon Part 3... The Final Act... maybe

#1 ranked and first seeded Lewis will host #4 ranked and second seeded Loyola this Friday for the MIVA Conference Championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This is the third consectutive year that these two squads have reached the MIVA Finals. Loyola won in 2013 at Lewis and 2014 at home. Lewis is 2-0 against Loyola this season and are the clear favorites in this match. Vinnie Lopes, Men's volleyball's leading bracketologist (really the only one), has projected the loser of this match to still receive one of the two at-large bids to the the NCAA Tournament at Stanford University next week.

This match will undoubtedly be sold out. The match at Lewis a few weeks ago was over capacity. Get there early!

Maybe I'll run into Coach Dan Friend in the restroom a half hour before the match again as he checks himself out in the mirror.

Both teams are virtually guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Tournament at this point. If favored Lewis wins, they'll be the #1 seed in the tournament and get a bye in the first round. If Loyola wins, the Ramblers and Lewis will probably be the #1 and #2 seeds, both getting byes into the semifinals. That would really honk off the MPSF fans who believe no one outside their conference plays decent volleyball.

According to bracketology estimates, we were figured for a #3 seed in the tournament with an automatic bid if we lost. Now we could be #1 overall for the second straight year, getting a bye in the first round.
