A comparable situation was Momo Jones from Harlem a few years back. He led Arizona to the Elite 8 but transferred to Iona and played right away because his grandmother was ill. By choosing Iona, he chose a top mid major that goes to the NCAA tournament somewhat regularly but passed up on bigger schools he would have started at like St. John's, Seton Hall, Rutgers, & Fordham. NU does have a log jam at guard behind McIntosh and Lindsey, which might make it a slightly more unappealing choice. He would most certainly make a big impact right away for DePaul though.

He averaged 24.1 ppg while shooting 48%. Also managed to grab 10.9 boards per game and dish out 3.8 assists.

One week he did this so:

Visiting Indiana State this weekend so definitely looks like a MVC-level kid.

The main knock against him is his shot is iffy at best. He finishes around the rim extremely well but he only shot 30% or so from 3 if memory serves.

That doesn't bother me that much for either player. We have plenty of outside shooting ability in Richardson, Ingram, and Custer. Negron will probably be more of a back to the basket type forward, and Avery's best use will be as a slasher creating some space on the dribble drive. For all of our gripes about our lack of height in the rebounding and rim protecting aspects of the game, we do still get some production offensively. PM places a huge premium on the ability to score close up (see CT, Montel, and Aundre).

I've heard similar things about negron which like LU I'm okay with. I remember hearing he was improving his outside shot going into his senior year and could have been primed to really take off further; but obviously he never had the chance. I wouldn't be surprised if he really jumps late in the season/year 2. He prob won't ever be a shooter but he'll be that junkyard dog type that'll get rebounds and put backs if nothing else.

Satterwhite missed his senior season of high school but I thought that he was making big improvements to his game by the last 2-3 weeks.

Interesting interview with Nick Irvin regarding Chicago area high school ball & recruiting stuff. Interesting tidbits include Cuonzo Martin not recruiting him to follow him to Missouri (although Lord knows he needs talent there) and teams like NU and U of I might be knocked down a peg in the Moore sweepstakes because of their depth at PG. In addition to McIntosh and Lindsey, NU has Isiah Brown and Jordan Ash in the wings and they're also looking at Elijah Brown from New Mexico as a grad transfer (fun fact: we held Elijah to only 6 points, his worst scoring game in his New Mexico career). I still think DePaul ultimately lands him, but it's still a nice pipedream for us.

Also one of our other PG targets Isaiah Coleman-Lands from La Lumiere ended up committing to Miami (OH). Solid get for them.
