I’m not sure about needing to apologize to PM, though. Everyone else, sure.swellafelon wrote:Apologies to Verbal Commits, RamblerMgr, 2011, Porter Moser, Oklahoma, and Alston Mason.
I mentioned a few days ago that on Twitter he liked a post of Ben Richardsons hyping this recruit for Loyola. It seems crystal clear to my conspiracy driven self now that he did so knowing that he was going to Oklahoma, and fully intending to get him to OU. So be it.

I'm not going to worry too much about poaching recruits. There's plenty of good players out there and I trust the coaches to find them.
I remember being upset when Emanuel Dildy went to Northwestern and then 4-star recruit Vic Law committed to the Wildcats. Dildy was his primary recruiter and it wasn't hard to put 2 and 2 together. Law wound up being a good player and helped Northwestern to the tournament. Porter & staff kept recruiting and found a gem in 2-star Donte Ingram. Rambler fans know how that turned out. Not only was Donte clutch but for any analytics folks, he had more win shares than Law in less minutes.
That's why I won't get too hung up on any one recruit.

Nice article with Ben Schweiger quotes talking about being surprised by Porter leaving but excited and committed to Drew. He’s definitely all in

I know PM couldn’t necessarily control the media and when things broke on social media, but that’s rough.“The first time I learned about it was through Twitter,” Schwieger said. “Just like everybody else.”
Great read, and great to hear that he’s so enthusiastic about still being committed.

Yeah, I think that's how it goes nowadays with the rush of Twitter reporters to be the first to break the news. There have been instances of professional athletes learning that they've been traded via Twitter. If this was 10 years ago, I'm sure Porter would have called the players and recruits after signing. Nowadays, the news breaks and media inquiries are coming in before the ink dries.01grad wrote:Dansen wrote:Nice article with Ben Schweiger quotes talking about being surprised by Porter leaving but excited and committed to Drew. This is interesting. Valentine just started following a '21 recruit named Will Smythe on Twitter. He's a 6-4 guard from St. Mary (Orchard Lake, Mich.) who seems to only have an offer from VMI. Smythe transferred in from nearby De La Salle where it seems like he wasn't a fit and he's been lighting it up this season, including a game where he hit 12 (TWELVE) 3-pointers: https://www.theoaklandpress.com/sports/ ... 59189.html
Kaifes 2.0, perhaps.
Here's video of his 12 3 pointers. Not sure how athletic he is, but a damn good spot shooter http://www.hudl.com/v/2FBcvV

I'm excited to see who we close with. Saint Thomas + another wing + maybe another post player. Will be fun.goramblers2011 wrote:Damn, he is certainly Gettin' Jiggy With It on those 3's. We definitely need guards. Whether it's Keith and/or Lucas or someone new.
