As much as Sports Information people (and their supervisors in the Athletic Department) don't like it, it is nearly impossible to have a modern Division I athletic program without a thriving message board disseminating information that needs to be known by fans and supporters. I can't think of a single example where a Division I program has thrived in this environment without some sort of well-guided outlet for fans. Well-funded and well-staffed attempts have been made by official organizations to circumvent the message board phenomenon over and over again, but they've fallen flat.
