Supposedly, in the NCAA bubble they're relying on testing everyone, every day. If you're out, you have to get 7 clean tests to get back in.

So this renders contact tracing unnecessary?

Makes sense to some extent, but isn't there a delay of several days between when a person is exposed and when he tests positive?

My concern is that the Ramblers are going to catch the damn Covid-19 virus when we play Georgia Tech, even though they all have had clean tests for 7 days.

You really have to feel for Wright. A senior who stuck it out through some tough early years to make the NCAA tourney for the first time and become ACC POY. Just to have it taken away. Never want to see that happen to anyone, regardless if it’s our first round opponent. Hopefully the guys will be ready, as this is something the GT players could really rally around.

Yeah, but the policies for schools and such seem to all be based on the test date.

If you and I were at Bruno's together on Saturday, and I tested positive on Sunday, you wouldn't be considered a close contact. Particularly if you continue having negative tests.

Likewise, if Wright was isolating when he tested positive, no one else would be affected (unless they have a positive test).

It appears sister Jean is already working her magic. Seriously though, I feel awful for Wright, GT, and the fans. That’s brutal and you never want to see something like this happen. With that being said I’m glad it didn’t happen to us.

Apparently contact tracing is still a thing (a BIG thing) at the NCAA Tournament:

This was my very fear...

I want to play tech... but I hope the NCAA is really looking into this hard and evaluating what to do.

What is really concerning to me is Pastner’s statement that the individual was isolated from the team. That seems a bit disingenuous if the positive test was confirmed Monday, and everyone saw Wright playing and celebrating with the team on Saturday night.

My big fear is the spread ... I’m not afraid of playing tech and I really want to play them— but it’s a legit risk now that this hits us and knocks US out too. If I were Steve Watson I would be pushing the NCAA to give me some serious answers about what’s going on and what has been going on.

I personally would like to see this game, at the very least, kicked to Saturday (along with U of Is game), and get at least one more day of testing for the Tech team to get a full week of test results in since their last game. Based in what this virus does, I feel like it’s unlikely that the rest their team is unscathed.

I would also petition the NCAA to seat 7 or so of our players away from the rest of the team, so that we can isolate them and only bring them in the round 1 game if needed (Hebb, Cooper, Anderson, Frank, (Welch- if porter doesn’t plan to use him Friday) and the walk-ons . I’d rather play our bottom 5 and get killed than forfeit if that’s what it came to.

I know this isn’t tech’s fault... but it really sucks for everyone involved.

I mean it seems absolutely ridiculous to not let Wright play but let the entire team play, like you said they were all with him during the ACC championship game....

What I was trying to say last night is that this is how school policies work, too -- at least in my experience. If he tested positive on Sunday, it doesn't matter where he was on Saturday.

It's illogical based on what we know about how the virus spreads, but it's pretty clear that the goal is to play the tournament, not to take every precaution imaginable to halt the spread. Even with that, if the rest of the GA Tech party has tested negative for 5-7 days, chances are they are fine.

I wonder if the NCAA tournament protocols are available online anywhere.
