Let me preface this by swearing I am not making any of this up...

Before 63 did a Stalinist purge number on Boblida, I looked at his profile page. It was in Russian, but using Google Translate I managed to figure out that he/she was in the Stroller business-making or selling strollers for tots and toddlers.

Now, according to Google, alternate meanings for the Russian word for "stroller" include "tramp, vagabond, hobo, vagrant, and drifter". I would bet a dollar to a donut that Boblida figured by its name that Ramblermania was a website dedicated to Americans crazy about strollers, and, wanting to enter the American market, he signed up.

Where Webmeup fits in, I'm not sure, but I bet it had something to do with the fact that some Ukrainian stroller merchant, using the Ukrainian counterpart of Google, was able to find Ramblermania .

Every day I get about 45-60 applications for board membership, and almost all of them are nonsense user names with hotmail.com email accounts. When I saw Boblida's request, it looked like a plausible member name, and his email wasn't on a spam registry that I sometimes check. As soon as I approved his/her membership, he immediately registered several instant messaging addresses on his account, which was a very bad sign. So I did my "Stalinist purge" for the protection of everyone on the board.

This morning when I woke up and checked my email for the first time in 10 hours, there were 19 more new board membership applications pending. This has been going on for weeks, even before the webmeup crawl.

I just thought it was funny that some Ukrainian stroller salesman joined Ramblermania through a linguistic mix-up. (assuming he WAS a legitimate stroller salesman and not some spam artist).
