Good Matchups and Bad Matchups

Who would you like to see us play, and who would you dread to see on the other side when the bracket comes out?

Personally, I would feel good matched up against USC, Alabama, and Seton Hall. Would not like to see St. Mary's, Colorado State or Michigan State.

Curious as to why you wouldn’t like to see Michigan State? They are definitely tough and athletic, but I think we match up relatively favorably against them. We played them tight earlier in the season, and they don’t have any real go-to post up threat inside which has killed us so often this year. They are actually very similar to us in that they don’t have a true go-to player on the team, it can be any player on any given night (see: Malik Hall in our game against them). Their freshman Christie is likely one of their better creators from the wing, but I think Lucas matches up well against him.

I think Christie has improved dramatically-- he hardly did anything against us in Nov. Plus I think they've ironed out their point guard situation, and Izzo has more accurate control over his team than he did when they were still working things out.

CBS has the Ramblers as an 11 seed playing Iowa in San Diego.

ESPN has the Ramblers as a 10 seed playing USC in Indianapolis.

USA Today has the Ramblers as an 11 seed playing Alabama in Indianapolis.

SI has the Ramblers as a 10 seed playing TCU.

*The average seed seems to be the lowest 10 seed with us playing the best 7 seed.

Why do you like a USC matchup? They're giant.

Just looking at teams that are on the 6 and 7 line via ESPN. I don't want St. Mary's, Texas, or Michigan State. I'd be okay with USC or Alabama. I'd prefer Ohio State, Boise State, or Colorado State.

I, in part, would want Colorado State to beat Niko Medved. I also hope the committee doesn't go for a good story and put us vs Murray State in a 7/10 matchup.

Something in regards to matchup is how these games will be called. I was watching a little of the Big Ten tournament yesterday, and the announcers said that the refs were meeting to discuss calling the tournament more tightly versus what's been called the entire regular season. If that's the case we probably want either a team that defends physically or is okay just being on the perimeter and shooting 3s on offense. Regardless on how it gets called, I think it's ridiculous to call an entire season one way and then come tournament time change it.

The Athletic has us playing LSU. On one hand, I would not like that as they play tough defense and could give us a lot of trouble. On the other hand, they just fired their head coach, and have the distraction of the NCAA investigation this whole week so who knows where their heads will be at come time for the game.

Iowa is t going to be that low of a seed, especially if they win they big ten tourney. They may be as high as a 3

Almost every team at this level has some plusses and minuses. I watched USC against a couple of teams this year and they didn't impress me as exceptionally good. Drew Peterson might be a matchup problem for us, but Mobley isn't that aggressive. I think we work a lot harder than they do, we're more physical, and play much tougher defense.
