1.Just curious. Is there no one out there who attended the Banquet and has some tidbits to share.
2. NCAA has lengthened the practice start date by I believe by 2 weeks
3. New No
rthwestern coach Chris Collins has been very active in the Chicago area. I think we will be competing with NU for recruits in the near future. NU is starting to appear at lots of AAU events and hitting some of the players from better schools like Whitney Young et. They are making a really strong play for Tyler Ullis (Plainfield) who I think we were one of the first to offer

Practice can start on September 27, 2013.

I think with the extended practice season that the NCAA should reconsider the scrimmage/exhibition rules. Currently you can play 2 exhib. games or 1 exhib. game and 1 scrimmage. Loyola has been doing the 1 scrimmage/1 exhib. game recently. I think that since the practice season is 6 weeks that the NCAA should increase this to allow schools to play 2 exhibition games AND 1 scrimmage.

This would allow you to play an exhib. game around Oct. 12th, a scrimmage around Oct. 24th and a final exhib. game around Nov. 1st. Just my thoughts but 6 weeks is a long time of just practicing against yourself and having only 1 exhib. game and 1 scrimmage or 2 exhib. games and no scrimmage.

I also learned that this rule gives teams only 6 more practices even though they get two extra weeks. They are allowed 30 practices over 6 weeks as opposed to 24 practices over 4 weeks. This allows the players an average of 2 off days per week and allows the coach more flexibility in practice scheduling. I still stand behind my proposal for another exhibition game. How do I get that legislation introduced to the NCAA?

As for the banquet, I did attend. It was run very professionally by the athletic dept. The players went around to meet everyone personally and the speaches were nice. It was a nice banquet honoring the 12-13 team but provided little insight into the 13-14 season. There was not a Q/A session like last year and felt a little short but I think that was due in part to the volleyball game that started at 8 PM. Dr. Calhoun and a number of staff members were in LA and not present. The party spilled over into the new Ireland Room where people watched the volleyball game. That too was fun. The food at the banquet was awsome and it was nice to see friends. Great event! The new Damen building is nice as well. Hope they put a picture of Sr. Jean up in her new room.

I was at the Basketball Banquet - first time! For what it's worth, I learned that Bradley will be our travel partner.

Teams travel in twos for Thurs/Sat conference games. Team A plays us Thurs and Bradley Sat; Team B plays Bradley Thurs and us Sat. We travel to the same two schools for road weeks.

The Valley plays conference games on Wed/Thurs/Sat/Sun a lot. I think TV controls a lot of this. Don't be suprised to see a Sunday night game even.

Off topic, but did you march with the TWISTERS last month in Oak Lawn?

On edit: FYI, (you probably know already but if not you should), there is a cool photo of the TWISTERS softball team marching in the parade on page 9 of today's Southtown Star.
