Re: Recruiting Class of 2022
I was on board for Klintman, but I knew, if we got him, it would probably only be for the 22-23 season. The crazy NIL, no-sit transfer portal era has made me realize the key to Loyola achieving/sustaining success does not depend on getting 4-star talent. Getting one of those guys doesn’t make us a top 15 team. It hasn’t worked for DePaul, and it probably wouldn’t work for us. It’s obvious to me now that mid-major success is 100% about getting a host of 3-star guys that buy into a system.
I might be in the minority, but I’m more excited about a guy like Golden than I would be if we were getting a guy like Isiaih Mosley. I’ve watched Golden video and I can easily see him fitting in and thriving in our system. I actually feel that way about our other three transfers as well. But I’ve watched Mosley enough now to know - he can single-handedly win us 10 games, and single-handedly lose us 5 to 10 games. No denying he’s a talented player - but I’m convinced his shot selection and unwillingness to play D would be a massive culture killer for our program. Same with AJ Green. Same with a guy like Freeman-Liberty.
I think Drew is doing a great job of getting solid guys that can fit into our proven system for success as a mid major. I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised how successful we’re going to be in the A-10 this upcoming year.
