2019-2020 Schedule
Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
All that waiting for a road game at Furman? Or was it a delay for the Quincy home game? Ouch.

I think Quincy and Coppin State were the only unknowns?JCT wrote:All that waiting for a road game at Furman? Or was it a delay for the Quincy home game? Ouch.
Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
I wonder if we passed up any decent D1 games, believing we could do better, only to have to settle for Quincy.... Wow, what a disappointment.... And not even a UIC game.

Woof. Not a great non-conf schedule.
Interesting opening up with an exhibition vs U-Indy. Tate Hall's first time on the court in maroon and gold will be vs his old squad.

Somebody do that thing where you put the NET rankings / Quadrants to each game.

Last year's NET rankings (and what Quadrant it would be assuming same NET ranking this yearahunte1 wrote:Somebody do that thing where you put the NET rankings / Quadrants to each game.
vs UC Davis (#251 NET, Quad 4)
@ Furman (#58 NET, Quad 1)
vs Coppin State (#342 NET, Quad 4)
vs St. Joseph's (#171 NET, Quad 4)
vs USF (neutral) (#83 NET, Quad 2)
vs Colorado State (neutral) (#193 NET, Quad 3) OR New Mexico State (neutral) (#46 NET, Quad 1)
TBA
@ Ball State (#133 NET, Quad 2)
vs Quincy (D2)
vs Norfolk State (#247 NET, Quad 4)
vs Vandy (neutral) (#155 NET, Quad 3)
vs Davidson (#81 NET, Quad 3)
So, yeah, not great. I suspect Vandy and Davidson to be improved--but likely only to Quad 2 games. Furman and New Mexico State appear to be our best chances at Quad 1 games. The other side of the Cayman bracket (George Mason (#154 NET), Nebraska (#51 NET), Old Dominion (#101 NET) and Washington State (#202 NET)) would not offer any Quad 1 opportunities.
Really wish we could have gotten a decent P5 away game.

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
USF and Davidson should both be improved from last year. I expect both to be Tournament teams. Davidson possibly top 25 according to some pundit hype:
The eye-popping name isn’t there for this schedule, but the metrics could be decent.
Someone hinted earlier that UIC didn’t want to renew, which probably made us scramble for an extra game we didn’t expect to have to find.

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
I get the disappointment on one hand. I'd like to see a marquee home game. But I think that is next to impossible to get without a conference challenge. (And/or a series with one of the other area schools, but it's obvious they just don't want to play us.)
On the other hand, I'm glad we are in a position to buy teams like Davis, Norfolk, and Coppin. And teams like St. Joe's and Davidson are who we should be trying to get to Gentile.
That said, this is a problem:
Bottom line: I think if you look at it fairly, H&H with St. Joe's, Furman, Davidson, Ball State, a Neutral P5, and a good MTE comes out to a pretty solid non-conference. The fact that it's likely not at-large worthy says more about the NCAA than about us.
EDIT: Adding... we also don't know how good of a team we are going to have this year. A harder schedule could be setting ourselves up for failure. Next year, on the other hand... our team is absolutely stacked.

How those would have both been Q4 games is kind of beyond me.vs Coppin State (#342 NET, Quad 4)

Re: 2019-2020 Schedule
You bring up a great point, ahunte1..... the loss of the MW series makes things a lot worse. It didn't really hit me until I saw how thin our schedule is, but the league not finding a replacement (Colonial? West Coast? CUSA?) is one of the first times I really feel let down by the league since we joined it.....
I think we should be able to cut deals for 2-for-1s with schools like Marquette, Georgetown, BC, and other Power Conference Jesuit schools.... Shouldn't we?
