Porter Moser Contract Talks
Re: Porter Moser Contract Talks
I dunno if people still watch or listen to Dan Patrick's show, but it's pretty cool that Clay was on twice this week and now Porter was on, too. And from listening to the interviews, it seems like he really likes this Loyola team.

Re: Porter Moser Contract Talks
Why is this not a done deal already?
PM and the Ramblers have provided a remarkably
exciting and respectable face to the world that would
NEVER have happened otherwise. PM and the program have the potential to
engage millions of interested fans in the Chicago area going forward.
Why would anyone even think of dropping the ball here?
I hope LU gets PM a deal and be done so he can go about everything that needs attention
ASAP. Of course, PM's staff, I assume are also to be part of the deal.
You can't recruit kids unless they know you will be there and you can't expect donors
to get onboard without knowing the school is all in too.
I hope to wake up and hear that all of this stuff is done. TO ME ITS A NO BRAINER....
We reached and passed a tipping point in visibility and should not let it slip away.

Just guessing but maybe because they've only been back for 3 days? And maybe Porter is taking some family time after a long incredible run like most coaches probably do? He has leverage and he has no reason to rush anything. Steve probably needs to run all the numbers and perhaps Porter wants the assistants to get raises. All guesses on my part.

One other element which could be playing a role...non-tenured professors went on strike today.vuster4 wrote:Just guessing but maybe because they've only been back for 3 days? Yes...I would bet that is a significant factor. Stalling with the contracts of underpaid faculty while giving the basketball coach a million dollar pay raise is not a good look for an academic institution.GoRamblers wrote:One other element which could be playing a role...non-tenured professors went on strike today.vuster4 wrote:Just guessing but maybe because they've only been back for 3 days? Re: Porter Moser Contract Talks
PM deal and the professors are TWO different affairs !!
--IF indeed they are underpaid--FIX IT or maybe these teachers can go elsewhere to get postions
--Can anyone in ACADEMIA see that WINNING HOOPS bring in REVENUE !! SEE XAV Marq GTN GON et al
-------I believe we recd a nice stipend for making the FINAL FOUR
This just may be reverting back to pre-REDISCOVER days--I Truly hope not !!
IF and I say IF this dissolves into us losing PM--BALL GAME OVER !!! Move over JOHN CARROLL U, LEMOYNE et al

I'll be the Debbie Downer in all of this.
-We ended last year with no money in the budget for a charter to SIU and had to bus.
-We started this with a rapist on the golf team who was out on bail for three years and no one in the athletic department even knew. Then found out in the press he pled guilty.
-The Board of Trustees didn't move their board meeting so they could attend the first round games. It is reasonable to assume we still have people on the board who don't support hoops.
-Let's not forget AD still reports to SVP of Administrative Services who originally negotiated the non-tenured contract that has created a strike, making all of this more difficult.
-A side note I would love to know how many cease and desist orders LU handed out on all the Sister Jean and LU gear being sold around town. There was a guy in a tent in front of the Thompson Center selling LU gear and at least half was non licensed. He easily moved a couple thousand shirts at 25 a crack.
-A million a year won't keep Porter if a better deal comes along. You have to be competitive and that means a longer term and more money.
-Here's the good part: Porters track record isn't a shining example of success. If you were going on this year thats a gamble for any school who will shell out a multi-million dollar package.

I do not think increasing his pay is a budget buster. The Bulls are down, the Hawks are down. The bears are a few years away.
Given the interest in the program at the moment, we should find a lot of ways to increase revenue through corporate sponsorships, maybe radio and even additional TV. I would also expect attendance to increase as well.
Loyola received millions in free advertising with the final four run.
