So 247 has upgraded teams from cool to warm in the Terrance Shannon race. This seems to indicate that Shannon has cut his list down to 6 teams. 4 of those teams are from Illinois. LUC, Illinois, DePaul and UIC. The other two are warm teams are Florida State and Louisville. So the good news is that we seemed to have make his final 6 yeah. The bad news is that he just went on an official visits to FSU and is now going on a visit to Illinois, and we might not have the fire power to compete with those power 5 programs. Especially since Illinois is having a great recruiting season that might include a top 15 guy in Kahlil Whitley. 247 is currently predicting him to fo fo Illinois, but they are often wrong so I dont put much into that. If I'm Moser than I'm pitching Shannon on being his best option to stay home. I'd be telling him that we are more successful than Illinois, that we have produced more NBA talent in recent years with 2 in the last 2 years, and he would have more immediate playtime here than he would at a power 5 program. Just got to get him in for a visit and I know Porter will be able to keep us in this fight.

Agreed. Shannon kind of blew up in the recruitment process. We can sell him on the fact that we were one of the very first teams on him (loyalty has to count for something) and highlight the fact that we've had two CPS-->LUC guys graduate and go on to play in NBA/G-League. Stay home, play for a Final Four team, graduate with a great degree and get your shot in the pros. What more can you ask for?

I think it was Swella who previously brought up a possible link between Terrence Shannon and former Ramblers player Corey Minnifield. There seems to be a decent amount of Twitter activity between the two. It could just be a random coincidence, with a former Chicago basketball guy being interested in an up and coming Chicago kid...but it does make me curious as well about whether there is any connection there. Anyone know?

Immediate playing time as a freshman and sophomore, in your hometown, for a program coming off a Final Four seems like a pretty good pitch.

We're in good position with a lot of local '19 kids. Landing any combination of Terrence Shannon (Lincoln Park), Dajuan Gordon (Curie), Perry Cowan (Depaul Prep) and Tom Welch (Naperville) would contribute to a great class (Shannon obviously being the top choice of the number one target).

Also the Illinois hoops program is currently a dumpster fire, theyre having early Moser years level of transfers and a horrible on court product. Id pitch him on stability.

To me, it would be a 4 team competition between us, Illinois, Louisville, and Florida State. if he’s looking for playing time out of the gate and doesn’t care about being at a power 5 school, the choice between us and UIC is a no-brainer. If he’s looking to win games and have a shot at playing in the tournament, the choice between us and DePaul is a no-brainer.

If he’s looking for a program with stability, I like our chances over Louisville, but you can’t take away the fact that despite their troubles, they always are relavent in the college basketball world. To a lesser extent you can say the same thing about Illinois.

Florida State would be the one program I would worry about, because they have had sustained success, are in a power five conference, etc. - except the fact that 4 Illinois schools are on his radar wfhch leads me to believe he might want to stay close to home.

I think weighing the pros and cons, he would have a tough decision between us and FSU.

What I find so exciting about all of this is the enormous change in recruiting! 2,3,4 years ago... we would NEVER be in contention with schools of that level! It's awesome!

From Eric Bossi of Rivals:

"Finally, I really like what Porter Moser and Loyola did in landing shooting guard Paxson Wojcik.

Coming off of their run to the Final Four, I'm impressed that Moser and the Ramblers are remaining true to what got them to where they are and Wojcik will end up being a tremendous player in Chicago.

When I watched Loyola make their run in March I was most impressed by their experience, their toughness, their execution, their timely shot making and their commitment to making their opponents play at their pace.

Wojcik reminds me a lot of the departed Ben Richardson but he's a little bigger and just a little bit better at most everything than Richardson was when he was getting ready for his senior year of high school right down the road from my house at Overland Park (Kans.) Blue Valley Northwest."
