One of my least favorite things is the whole let the guys play when it gets to the last 10 seconds. Refs never call fouls in the last few seconds unless it's obvious and won't change the outcome of the game. It happens all the time. They make the call on Milt and it looks like they changed the outcome of the game. They don't make it, they can say at least there was a chance in overtime to win, but they didn't. It's ridiculous, but happens all the time!
speechless! OK, maybe not speechless, but NOTHING good to say about this one. NOTHING. OUCH! Can't even think of looking at the stats, they have to be abominable.... Wouldn't have mattered if the refs were not inept. We would've found a way to lose this game. Only thing worse than watching our guys today was listening to the inane broadcasters. Snickering about a charter flight home.... No where to go but up. See you all down the road.

What was great about last year was there was only one game I recall (Tulane) where anyone could have second-guessed our effort and determination. That's so RARE for a Loyola team... and last year we finally lived up to our potential. We lost a lot of games because of injuries, but we gave it maximum effort with what we had. This year has been a waste, because we looked across the court at a bunch of teams and said to ourselves, "Oh, we're better than them. Just give us the W now. We'll go though the motions and play a little basketball here and there, but we deserve the win." And then we lose by 1, 2, 5 or 7 points in crunch time.
So only AFTER we get into an 0-5 hole after playing it that way for 1/4 of the conference season, THEN we begin putting up 85 or 90% effort, or in some games even more. And we yank ourselves up to the precipice of avoiding Thursday, but we backslide into the nonchalant "We're better than those guys" attitude, and now we're back in 8th. Granted, we were hurt in this game without Earl and Tyson, but still... we dug our grave and thought the opponents were too inept to bury us.
You don't get a 4 or 5 seed given to you because you're special, or because you put forth maximum effort in about half your games or whenever you feel like it. That's what I really can't stand, and we should be embarrassed about. That's why no one shows up to watch you play. I hope these guys have to listen to a non-stop monologue all the way home about how they put themselves here. We have GOT to eliminate this aspect from our "CULTURE," because we will NEVER succeed until it is gone.
