WELL WELL, WELL !! God bless her--She has a huge job ahead of her. SHE naturally made initial points with me as soon as my magic word--"Pentagon" was uttered !!! Some day we may be able to compare notes as many folks inside that five sided structure were exceedingly good to me over the years !!!

IF she can solve 86s points quickly, we shall be on our way !!!

GODSPEED !!

Not only is Rooney the first lay president of Loyola, she is also the first female president of Loyola, and only the second woman president of a Jesuit university.

And by all outward appearances, she is achieving one more notable first...the first lesbian president of any Jesuit university. (Just my impression, but my gaydar went into hyperdrive when I watched a video of her giving an interview a few years' back on Leadership).

I'm disappointed that we will not have Jesuit l i'm disappointed that we will not have Jesuit
Leadership in the presidency position but that's a whole other issue to debate. What does this hiring mean for the basketball program?

If she holds true to her background on sticking up for students rights and well-being, it means trouble for the athletic department and both bball coaches. Porter has pulled 15 scholarships in his time at LU. Swoopes is a mess. If she has accountability as a main priority Kelly, Malisch, Watson are gone. All three were aware of what was transpiring and did nothing to the direct detriment of the athletes. The three of them cross department lines and would send a shock throughout the university to fly right and do things correctly. It would establish her as the new sheriff in town immediately.

Given her background, my guess is that she hasn't given it a thought. She seems to have succeeded at everything she's tried and she has high-level administrative skills. That's all to the good, but we have no hint of how she values athletics. It's been an underperforming operation so it should draw some attention even apart from the Swoopes mess.

I'm playing devil's advocate here so no one be offended.
Education wise I'm not really impressed with any of the schools. Penn is no Vandy for education edh but it's a step up from the others she holds degrees from.
She was only 1 1/2 years at the pentagon and then was stalled to be undersecretary of the navy until Obama asked her to withdraw.
Huron is a company having its own troubles and most likely hired her for govt connections to procure contracts. If she was able to succeed at that then Loyola couldn't have afforded her. Her title was managing director which doesn't put her at the top of the food chain.
I'll give her a pass on Mt Ida. If your country calls then you go no questions asked.
Her background as tax attorney and estate planner along with being adjunct professor are interesting because there is a gap in the timeline before those jobs which really isn't a big deal to have explain what you did 25 yrs ago. It's not exactly setting the world on fire. However, the overlap of being a full time professor and getting a edh at the sometime is interesting.
She has no experience in fundraising according to the press release. This an area Loyola has struggled mightily in. There are large debts on the building that has occurred over Father Mike's tenure. I don't know the debt structure but it might be a reason Loyola couldn't attract a top tier talent.
All that being said
I hope she does a great job. Loyola deserves a capable president and one who reflects its mission and every aspect of what makes this place great. I see some real positives with Ms Rooney and I think she might be able to get it done with the right team around her. I'm really interested if she cleans house with some of the dingalings that report to her. This is a pivotable time and I don't want to see a repeat of our past financial problems.

Judging by what i've read about her so far, I'm guessing that she does not care one way or the other about our sports program....

Her doctorate is an “Executive EdD” from Penn. It’s a 2 year program for which you do not give up your job (she was President at Spalding University). You meet with your cohort for one week in the summer and one weekend a month for two years. I am sure Penn offers something of value, but LUC faculty who worked their tails off over periods of 4 to 8 or more years to get a PhD and spent two years just on the dissertation are not going to be impressed.

I'll be pleasantly surprised (shocked) if she says anything about athletics (outside of possibly the Swoopes situation) in her first year.
