Valpo was expected to be just below average in the MVC, and UIC was figured to be 4th or 5th in the HL.... So not a totally surprising result (Valpo was favored by 1), but with UNI starting 0-3, and Evansville losing to Prairie View A&M, the MVC needs to start racking up some wins.
If everyone is healthy, I think we will steamroll UIC... but I was a bit surprised Valois wasn’t able to put them away.

Granted we haven’t had as many chances this year, but usually a Valley team is good for a signature upset in Non-con. That hasn’t happened yet, and, overall, I would say we’ve looked disappointing as a conference. It’s really a shame Loyola is missing out on opportunities.... The Florida win the final four year was so big for us as a team, as far as building momentum and confidence... it’s a shame we might not get an opportunity for a game like that this year.

I think UIC is a different beast with their new coach....I have always thought they were a sleeping giant....was really surprised and happy when the MVC chose us over them.....
How real is Drake? they have two decent wins....always hard to evaluate this early.....but anyone know a lot about their team? that Sturtz guy I hate ....but he is a competitor. They have a lot of contributing upper classman back,,,,although the loss of Robbins seemed significant...THink their coach is good...and they always play us tough....are they the MVC sleeper this year?

Sturtz can play, the thing that drives me crazy is they got him as a walk on (I think he has a parent that's a professor or something). They have some nice depth at guard and Roman Penn is probably the best pure point guard in the league at this point, he can do it all. I think the lack of proven size will hurt them down the line, but they should have a balanced offensive attack and be a solid team. They remind me a bit of the Milton's senior season where Maurice Kirby was our starting center but Aundre played most of the minutes. The KState win looks impressive on paper, but they're shaping up to be pretty bad this year... extremely young and they only beat UMKC by 4 points.

That said, watch out for Drake next year, Devries son Tucker committed there and was a borderline top 100 prospect. Super similar to the AJ Green situation at UNI.

Yak is one of the best defensive coaches in the country. He worked wonders at Michigan and had Texas defense playing well last year. UIC will be competitive in the Horizon under Yak. But I see him as a likely candidate to jump to a big time program after a few decent years at UIC.

We should definitely beat UIC, but it does make me a little nervous that it's our first game and their fourth or whatever.

Aren't we still scheduled to play Chicago State on Dec. 9th? The UIC game would be the 13th, I believe, and then we have nothing until the 30th. Need to get some games scheduled and published so we can get a better idea of our prospects (Chicago State game is listed on CSU's official schedule, but we've yet to release ours-- game is not listed on KenPom and other sites).

Porter no longer scheduling non-D1s after last year's UIndy exhibition? Kidding, of course, but CSU is probably a similar level of competition as Judson and a definite step down from UIndy.

I’m alright with not playing a D2 or D3 team during COVID, there’s nothing to gain from it.

Cannot imagine watching the IL St / Greenville game
177 to 107??? 284 points in 40 min equals about 7 points per min...assuming no missed shots...
Was this a half court game or maybe two basketballs at same time.
Better yet maybe they did pop a shot.....
Coaches have to be embarrassed...
