I thought the same thing at first, but I changed how I thought about it and I'm seeing things in a new light. The nickname is a bright idea!

To me the logo looks less like a lighthouse or "Beacon" and more like a chess piece...the Queen to be exact.

The Valpo Queens might work for their women's teams, but I think it would put their men's teams at a competitive disadvantage to have to wear this emblem on their uniforms.

We had a fan poll on our board of the 8 finalist selections and beacons came in dead last with no votes! The selection committee must have seen the results and that put it over the top.

I don't mind the name. I think the logo is pretty bad.
