My impression of Belmont is that it's a school that's going to have a huge letdown when their exceptional 60-year old coach retires. Rick Byrd has been there for 28 years, and took them from NAIA to Division I Independent to Atlantic Sun to Ohio Valley. Their move to D-I was largely financed by a Nashville Born Again Christian music entrepreneur (and the former Lieutenant Governor of California) Mike Curb. In the Nashville area, they're likely the 4th most popular college basketball team behind Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and (perhaps) Memphis in terms of Nashville-area interest. Tennessee State and Lipscomb are also in Nashville.

Just read that Loyola has offered a scholarship to Matt Rafferty. He is a 6'7" 2015 power forward from Hinsdale Central.

Mack Mercer verballed today to.... Belmont. Over St. Louis, Boston College, Illinois State, Valpo, Indiana State, Loyola, Ball State, Kent State, Miami (OH), Rice, William and Mary, and Vermont. (He must have had a pretty nice test score and GPA to get those offers).
