Ugh...heartbreaking loss.
We made a great comeback, but Watson fumbles the rebound.

Win the A10 tourney or bust now.
Things we shouldn’t like:
Burning Turner’s redshirt…. What for ?
DeLoach -18 in the game score and offers nothing yet again.
Zero rebounding effort or fundamentals
Canisius was bad. Oakland is bad….. Do we reevaluate the makeup of this roster?

Yes, tough loss
We trailed nearly the entirety of the game.
As we lost by one point, some stats.
Our FT% of 66% to their 90%.
We really need to get our FT %s at about 71%.
Offensive rebounds. Our 9 to their 15. 2nd chance points. Our 11 to their 15.
Miles 21 pts 3 blks
Sheldon 20 pts hitting 6 threes
We have 3 regular players out and we're putting in freshmen who haven't been part of the regular routine. We can't expect the same results immediately. But Oakland, appears to be a Q3 or 4 team in the net.
If we won this game we'd be playing to avenge our Sweet 16 loss to Oregon. But those are the breaks.
Drew will continue to have his work cut out for him

Not disagreeing that our FTs are bad, but Oakland has shot at 61% on the year. They had one guy go 6-6. He came in at 36% on the year and 51% in his career. Something was in the water for them at the line and they probably never shoot that well again, especially Mukeba who probably had the best night of his life.

Yeah, must be something in the water if they came into tonight's game with those stats.

One of the more gag-inducing losses of Drew's tenure. Oakland is likely a bottom half Horizon team. Down multiple starters or not, an so-called A10 contender needs to beat teams like Oakland.
I would call it gutless were it not for that final two minute flurry of a comeback.
Miles and Sheldon were solid. But on the last possession, both were a big reason we lost. Miles got lured to the perimeter so wasn't there for the board. And Sheldon just watched the Oakland player grab the putback. He didn't event attempt to get a body on him or go for the ball. Bad, bad, bad. Not to mention Des letting the ball slip from his hands out of bounds, giving Oakland another possession to win.
Speaking of Des, come on, man. 38 minutes against a Horizon team and you shoot 3-10 (0-4 from deep) for 6 points. After Dawson went down, I really thought Des would rise to the occasion. He's done anything but that. DeLoach also looks awful and has for most the season. He's a net negative on the court.
This is a pretty bad team right now. We feasted on cupcakes to get to 9 wins. A whole host of A10 teams look much better than us right now.
Also, why didn't Daniil get much (any?) run in the 2nd half? I thought he looked decent out there.
On Turner, I don't think he burned his red shirt. I know in football, you can play 4 games (1/3 of the season) and preserve your redshirt. Assume it's the same or similar here (maybe like 8 or 9 games?).

Whether we burned Turners redshirt or not is secondary. The question is why did we bother putting him in for those 2 minutes ? Why didn’t those minutes go to Danill or Seif? What was the point of that? Just another highly questionable substitution by Drew.

Agree with most of this sub. Des has not looked like a 4th year senior that was preseason A10 team. He might be a “dog” and Drew loves him, but man he needs to deliver some decent offensive nights here at some point. The missed layups are mind boggling.
Miles looked great, love that we finally got him touches.
I didn’t think Daniil was bad, not sure why he can’t stay in
Seif… not sure I’ve seen him attempt to dribble past somebody a single time. Sort of defeats the purpose of being a 6’8 guard?

1. Guessing Turner got in as he is from California,,thought this might be a game for his family to be there and plus we were short handed.
2. With fundamentals when you get guys that have been in a couple programs not much consistency
3. Des and Jalen will always be streaky long range shooters as they are flingers and not shooters...requires a lot of touch. The arch is flatter for flingers.
4. When you continue to bring in so many new guys hard to reach peak efficiency early and if you have injuries just puts the process down the road.
5. On the last play I thought we did what we wanted we got Miles on the shooter forcing him to take a bad shot...we just did not rebound the ball....seems like we thought the game was over.
6. Need to use the rest of the tournament to get ready for A-10

Yeah I think Seif winds up as a tall wing, don't think he stays at PG. Might be why Turner is being activated?
As for the game, disappointing but I think we all saw this coming a mile away. Don't want to completely blame the injuries, but can't discount them as well. At this point you just hope we get the guys that are just in a funk to figure things out before A10 play.
