Not sure what Alston was supposed to do there. He came to a stop and jumped around the flopping UIC guard. Bad call.
But the turnovers are, frankly, inexcusable.

Good run there. Just got to close it out! We've got 4 guys with 4 fouls: Welch, Quinn, Alston, and Golden

I feel like Alston is a reincarnation of Aundre Jackson. Action Jackson it was said.

Alston, Bryce and Saint with some grown men plays down the stretch. Thank God because it was another really rough game shooting from deep.
Fouls, turnovers and general sloppy play. Still got the win on the road in a rivalry game.
There's a lot to be excited about with this squad. (also a lot to be concerned about...).

25 turnovers! I'm glad we won but that was just sloppy
Not a single attempted 3Pt shot from Norris also which I found kinda strange

He didn't make any. But he attempted 4. He is 2-13 from deep to start the season. That's wild.

Thanks, I stand corrected, my old eyes can't read the phone screen lol

Random notes while watching the game -
Sheldon Edwards has fouled 3 point shooters in back to back games. Also has been getting back doored, he’s been playing the front of his man
Defensive rebounding has looked a lot better
Tom Welch still hasn’t missed a FG!
Front court of Welch, Alston, and Golden rotating through is dangerous
Surprising that Wilson isn’t getting any run
Schwieger looks like a future all conference player if he’s this aggressive
So many silly turnovers and bad passes

Cut the turnovers in half and we win that game by 20. Imagine if we just shoot a little closer to average from deep.
I'd like to see Wilson get more run too. Edwards is good, solid, but you can see why he was coming off the bench at Valpo. He needs some work on the defensive end.

We will take the win - but.....
Sloppy sloppy sloppy. Ridiculous number of bad turnovers - many or them unforced. There were time where we struggled to make a simple unguarded pass at the top of the lane.
Remember when "defend without fouling" was one our key philosophies? How far are we from that right now?. And it's been consistent. Both games...both halves.
It's clear that Drew wants to play fast - and let his players show their offensive talents. But we need to mix in better decision making. Saint jacking up a 3 (the one on which he also traveled) when he had a clear path to the basket.....Alston forcing up 2 offensive rebound shots with 50 seconds to go and a 4 point lead (kick it out!). Edwards fouling on the 3 point shot. Saint holding on an inbounds play when UIC had 3 seconds on the clock. Welch picking up his 5th foul 30 feet from the basket.
All of this is a product of being a very young team with a lot of new faces. We had the luxury of experienced teams the past few years - particularly last year when we had so many 5th year seniors. It's gonna require patience. I am confident it will get better....but it's gonna take quite a bit of time,
Thought Braden had a particularly rough game. Beat on defense (as others have pointed out) multiple times, several for his missed 3's were ill advised....but in particular too many bad passes when he dribbled himself into trouble. I think he is executing the offense the way Drew wants it run, but he needed to slow down more often and run a play. We have run some nice screen/roll in both games - but we haven't done it nearly enough.
