I’m a new fan of luc and I want to thank whoever let me in here. Took me forever to find a fan message boards. I thought you guys might be on 247 but whatever I found this. I was wondering what is your guy’s thoughts on DePaul and them probably getting a new coach. I went to providence for undergrad (now here for grad) and they were always nice to play because how bad they been. Does luc play them much? Also who are the ramblers rivals?

Sorry for asking dumb questions but it’s hard to find this stuff out when you’re home and not on campus.

We don't play them at all. Neither Northwestern or Depaul will play us. We had a game scheduled this year at Depaul for the first time in a decade and it got cancelled and never rescheduled. I refuse to release this grudge until the clock runs out on our first game with them.

As far as the coaching situation goes, I think the general consensus is it's unlikely they poach our guy. We were concerned they might try for our AD and get the pair but they went with the Calipari coaching tree, and I think that suggests they're not looking to grab someone from a mid-major unless that person has a high major pedigree (which Moser does not).

As far as Rambler rivals I may be the wrong person for this. We've been in our current conference only since the 2013-14 season and so it's still a little fresh. The old heads on the board may be able to lend a historical perspective. In the MVC I think the fan base sees UNI as a respectable rival who we always play to the wire, Bradley as a pretty dirty team that we have a lot of disdain for, and ISUr as a fanbase we get into it with. Illinois State has a lot of grads in Chicago and so our home games against them (especially when they weren't league bottom feeders) drew a large and rowdy crowd of Redbird fans. Wichita was easy to hate but they left for greener (?) pastures before we got good enough to make it a rivalry lol.

Welcome to the fandom! If I may ask, how'd you get here from supporting a Big East team?

I think of all of the Illinois teams as our rivals.

I despise Depaul. I enjoy watching its program struggle rudderless and lifeless.

UNI is the most consistent team in the MVC. I feel a sense of accomplishment when we beat them.

I find the most pleasure in beating Bradley.

I would like to play Northwestern, but I don't really care about their program.

As another recent Rambler fan, welcome aboard! I just recently started attending classes at LUC, and being able to follow this hoops team has been a great COVID distraction for not being on campus. College basketball has treated me very well this year. Between the Blers and Michigan (my other team), I’ve had some great basketball to watch this season. And in a year when many of the historical blue-bloods are struggling, it makes it all that much sweeter!

Respected Rival: UNI, outside this year the games are almost always classics. Both OT games last year, Krutwigs only career 3 pointer to seal a game the year prior, Custer defending green at the buzzer, a nail biter in arch madness the Final Four year.

Chippy rival: Bradley... It used to be ISU, but they’ve fallen so hard the last few years that’s kind of faded away. Bradley plays a super physical style the the games are usually played at a high intensity.

Not a rival but a team that bugs me: MSU, for whatever reason no matter the coach we seem to struggle against Missouri State. We’re 2-4 in our last 6 matchups.

UIC is the closest consistent non con rival we have just because they actually play us. Though I believe we were supposed to play furman this year (?) which would have been the third consecutive year as well.

Welcome to the board, NYC. This board has been going in some form since July 1998. It's been at this address since just before Loyola joined the MVC in 2013.

From the early 1980s to 2012, Loyola was in the same conference as Butler, and they were our biggest rival for most of the early 2000s. Butler left to go to the A-10 a year before we left the Horizon League. When the current configuration of the Big East developed, Butler joined out of the A-10 and Creighton left the MVC. Loyola joined the MVC at that time, even though many fans didn't want us in the conference.

Since joining the MVC (seven full seasons before the current season), Loyola has had four seasons of 20 wins or more, one season of 30 or more wins, two regular season conference championships, and one conference tournament championship. Loyola won the CBI in 2015, went to the NCAA Final Four in 2018, and went to the NIT in 2019. We're seven wins away from another 20-win season this year, with at least 10 more games to play.

Welcome!

Ill throw my thoughts in too...I think of DePaul and Northwestern as enemies but not Rivals since they wont play us. I do think of UIC as our city rival and i think of our annual game as THE game for city bragging rights.

Valpo/Bradley/Illinois State & UNI are the conference teams I hate the most for a variety of reasons.

Valpo because they're geographically close, looked down on us from the H League days and their fans travel well to Gentile. Plus Lottich is easy to get under the skin of from the stands and that always spices up the distaste.

Bradley because they think they're a premier program in the Valley despite not finishing 1st or 2nd in the regular season for about as long as anyone can remember. Wardle is a jerk to boot.

Illinois state because they were the most vocal about both not wanting us to join the Valley when we did AND because they were so sure Porter Moser was no good. I just enjoy being the program all their fans wish their team was.

Northern Iowa because theyre a great program with good fans, a good coach and usually the guys standing in the way of us and our goal.

Yes, our "rivalry" with UNI is one out of respect. Two good programs with good coaches and good players. We are pretty much guaranteed to have a good technical game whenever we play them (maybe not so much this year). Bradley on the other hand, those fans are obnoxious. Wardle is a dick, the team plays dirty. It's always a treat to go to a home game against them and hear the trash talking from their fans slowly subside as our lead continues to grow and grow.

I've only been a fan since the beginning of the 2018 season. That's when I transferred to Loyola (perfect year to transfer lol). From what I've seen, Bradley and Illinois State seem to be the best rivalry games. Obviously whatever team is considered the largest threat to us would also be included, UNI last year and Drake and MSU this year. I've noticed that it's really easy to dislike Bradley and their fans. Illinois State fans always seem to show up for Loyola home games and have a large fan base in Chicago which makes them a great rival. Outside of our conference our biggest rivals are any local Chicago teams, UIC is the only team that's been willing to consistently schedule games with us. My personal favorite non-conference rival is Depaul, making fun of Depaul was a common joke while being a student at Loyola. Teachers would even throw subtle jabs during class at Depaul, I loved it. I was originally planning on going to Depaul and visited Loyola and was blow away by the campus, I immediately changed my decision. The similarities between the two schools makes it a fun rival, they like to act like they're better than us because they're in the BE but they've been the punching bag the entire time they've been there.
