I know downstate direction is indicated by "as the crow flies", but what is the native unit of distance?

Is it a "yonder", a "stretch", a "hog's tether" or a "whoop and a holler"?

For example, would it be correct Downstate Speak to say "St. Joe Ogden is only a whoop and a holler from Tuscola as the crow flies?"

And what is the metric equivalent of a "country mile"?

Bout 10 minutes down the road, once you pass the S curve. If you pass Brandon’s house you’ve gone too far. Also, if you’re goin that way can you drop this off to Larry? He’s working out in the field over there today and forgot his lunch. Watch for deer, they’ll come out of nowhere this time of year.

There is a new version of Mapquest that just came out which has a "Rural Mode" you can switch to that sounds just like that.

It comes standard in all 2022 Ford F-150s and Dodge Rams.

We are his first offer, but there should be many more to follow, if this article is any indication:

I have said this before so slap me if you need to, but I am not familiar with the University of Loyola Chicago.

Pretty sure he was the recruit at the open scrimmage...with his mom. Was being shown around campus after the scrimmage.

Yea I saw him at the practice with what looked like two parents.. I believe that there were a total of 3 recruits there. I believe Ethan Kizer and John Blackwell were the other two.

Kizer and his folks were sitting next to me, I guess his HS teams logo is the same as Illinois State. When they first walked in covered in what seemed to be Redbird gear I had to do a double-take.

It looks like that’s a strong possibility.
