Another frustrating game.

Lost in the blow out was the fact that we only committed 13 fouls and limited our TOs to 10. We actually forced Dayton into 14 TOs and we got 7 more shots up than they did. You would think this was a recipe for success.

It was not as we shot a pathetic 30.5% from the floor on 18-59 shooting. Many of these were actually good looks. Some were forced, byt come on... 18-59 from one of the best shooting teams in the conference in our own building?

We were no better from the arc as we shot 20.8% in 5-24 shooting. Braden was 0-7 and Quise was 0-3.

This was a shocking performance.

We held Dayton to 65 points. This was a winnable game. It also continued a bad pattern offensively. If we don't make early threes and shors, we abandon our offense and start to force shots or play too much 1 in 1.

Shame, the game was on National TV, sell out and boisterous crowd, and Miles Rubin was in the crowd. We really could've "sold" the program tonight and helped our future recruiting.

Last thought... Dayton had a very large following at the game. I expected they would have fans at the game, but beside the seats every team is required to make available behind the visitor bench, Dayton had several sections above and by the tunnel Loyola uses to get to the locker room. It can't be a coincidence that these were bought randomly. I would hate to think our ticket office or administration made these available to Dayton. If so, this is unacceptable. I would rather see those tickets go to students, or youth groups, etc. We will get better and eventually build the Joe back up as a tough place to play. Giving tickets in this scale is giving aid to the enemy.

First game I couldnt get to this year. My tickets went back to the Athletic Department with a guarantee they would go to LU fans and I trust Brain Day. I am guessing some LU fans sold them on the secondary market where they were going for up to 75 bucks. We need to continue to work on filling the stadium with LU season tickets holders. Hate to see the other teams fans be able to make a ruckus in our gym.

Things could be worse than having a hard working group of kids , a really good atmosphere and the shine and glow of the past 6 years and a chance to prove we are great fans able to support a bunch of good kids trying to rebuild a program after some great years...Hope we as fans are up to it and the word fair weather just refers to June in Chicago.

Statistically looked like we did a lot of things right, winning second chance points, fast break points, points off turnovers...all hustle points. Lost points in the paint and rebounds..which sound like personnel points. And our youngster plus Norris were 2 for 20 . Ouch..

And I hate to be on the other side of the fence than Brot...but I think I have bought in to letting Coach Valentine pull the wagon for a few more years.

I didn't want to make any comments on this thread because I was upset at how we were playing. I missed attending the game because of a late-evolving conflict (got home when it was 9-5 Dayton).

I felt from the very beginning (or at least when they announced that St. Mary's Institute on would be one of our home-home partners) that the two games against Saint Mary's were probably losses, but they would be the best learning experiences as to what the tension levels would be in this league. Unhappily, I underestimated how high the floor is on boorishness, trash-talking, and rudeness by visiting fans is. The ceiling (Dayton, formerly St. Mary's Institute) was a known.

I was surprised how obnoxious VCU fans and players were. I wanted to like VCU, because my brother went there and I thought I understood where their student body came from.

George Washington, our first A-10 opponent, gave us a tutorial in on-court trash-talking. I wish the students were in attendance when they were in town, because I think it would have been different.

I never want to lose to St. Joe's again. We need to make it a mission to beat St. Joe's EVERY DAMN TIME. We have no business losing to them, and after they poured it on against us I want to get even badly, relentlessly, and forever. Beat St. Joe's, and beat them bad. Don't pull the starters. Bludgeon them.

Richmond seems like a pretty good group of fans and players. I didn't have a problem with St. Louis the first time around. I thought George Mason would be horrible, but they weren't. It was hard to tell how Duquesne and UMass were by one time on the road.

I don't want to be a fan of a team that trash talks its opponents. I want to support and follow a team that wins, and when they get smack talk from the other side, I want them to win by 25-40 points and walk off the court without comment.

I also think there is room for a team in the A-10 that focuses primarily on defense, but in a different way than VCU. I am intrigued by the fact that A-10 teams perform at a high level in the regular season and non-con, but don't do all that well in NCAA Tournament play. This year, the A-10 was TERRIBLE in almost all of their MTE games, where they had the chance to boost the conference. I think there is a path to build teams that succeed both in the A-10 and deeper into postseason-- it can't be as narrowly cobbled as it is now. Need athletic players that will play defense, team-focused, no egos, semi-defined roles, and specialists on the bench for three-point shooting, driving to the basket to get freebies, blocks, and rebounds.

What aversion does the coaching staff have to Hutson? Golden/Welch looked so slow on defense yesterday. Caught out of position, burned for easy buckets. Hutson played just a few minutes and looked decent. He has looked average to above-average in all of his appearances this year. Why isn't he getting more play? It makes no sense to me. If he was buried behind a Krutwig-type talent, sure. But buried behind Golden/Welch? No. It's some BS to me.

Braden and Quise simply need to better on offense for us to win games.

One thing mentioned on the broadcast was that Drew thought the shootaround wasn't being taken seriously enough. Not sure if it's worth reading into the poor shooting night after that sort of comment...

Also, they NEED to fix the concessions. The beer lines were insanely long all game. The credit card machines were moving at a snail pace. It is the biggest complaint from visiting (and LU) fans about Gentile.

My guess is that when he says shootaround, that has more to do with preparation and game planning than with literally practicing your shot.

Also, regarding the Dayton fans having large sections, I assume they just bought the tickets they could as soon as they went on sale. With the lower bowl and upper center sections accounted for, that leaves the corners and end zones available for purchase. Nobody should be surprised that the reason the game sold out in like a day is because Dayton fans bought all the tickets.

Really seems like it shouldn't be hard to set up extra pizza, popcorn, and beer stands when you know 3000+ people are going to be there. It's frustrating to miss five minutes of the game waiting in line.

Concessions have been a problem all year.

To whom can we send these complaints to?

The cash bar corner stands we had prior seasons were the best thing going. Quick and done. Giving the responsibility of it to Aramark has been disastrous. And under our prior setup, lager/pils was $6 ea compared to $8/9 now.
