Thanks for the assists guys ! The point of all this is the so-called Power Conferences will shortly be having MORE trouble holding us, WSU, Xavier , VCU Gonzaga and others back--Oh yes, Butler the Zags are but two who are going well. ( Creighton was a one trick pony much the same as Jacksonville St some years ago.) The only thing the "power Guys" can do is slice and dice teams such as us and others of course with Committee help--They are having more trouble doin' it on their own---This year's UCLA- YUCK!!--- Poor seeding for WSU and N Iowa !! Now what LUC must continue to do is keep winning , maybe against low level teams in the Power Conferences just like Texas Tech etc --Porter is starting to do that the AD will help. The more we can beat these teams the better--SO let us get to the Colorado Buffs.

Should we keep this good stuff up, we will be noticed--I e Great Alaska Shootout-- The Valley KNOWS our reputation--from the olden days- They wanted this !!!

I think that we can all agree that the folks who frequent this board are not your typical Loyola students/alums: they are basketball geeks who have an intimate knowledge of basketball stars and teams from the 1940s on... Most people at Loyola and in Chicago are not that knowledgeable. (They are more like me, I think!) Most Loyola students are from the Chicago area and points East. The teams in the MVC are not as compelling to the average Loyolan as the teams in the Big East. We have very little in common as an institution with the MVC teams or the Big Ten, for that matter. But the teams of the Big East... I do not think that anybody can make a compelling argument that we would not fit right in. Oh well... It's just a fantasy, but it seems to be working out pretty well for Butler.

Well. Gal I would really love to be in the Big Least--BUT for us the timing is not and was not right. There are a number of factors--ie The tremendous travel cost--Marquette is finding that out as is Creighton. We are darn lucky to be in the VALLEY--They took us maybe in their minds two years or so too early--Porter and the gang surprised them big-time--AND it is going to get better for us from here out. Other Conferences know and respect the Valley--Up-coming deal with the Mountain--
Now then , I see the students coming aboard soon with us and the Valley because we shall be winning ( as we did this year to a degree)
Oh sure , it would be great to play Villanova, St John's and the rest--BUT students, when the bloom is off the rose and we keep losing-see DePuwl , Creighton. They will not hang around. Think of what is near us--Evansville, Indy St So Ill and Ill St with Drake and N Iowa not so far. with the Braves right around the corner. ARCH MADNESS ! All we need do is win !
And quite frankly , we are the best in Chgo for now --It will only get better.

I know I will not be changing your mind any time soon--But watch us go--the wagon is just starting !

A few people on the DePaul message boards i've checked out have thrown out Porter Moser as a possible candidate. They obviously have high hopes and have also thrown out names like Tom Crean, but I could see how Porter might be appealing to DePaul. He's got head coaching experience, he's relatively young, and has proven that he can recruit in the Chicago area. When I first heard the news of his firing, i laughed at the idea of Porter leaving for DePaul... but the more I thought about it, it doesn't seem like a lot of the up-and-coming coaches would want to sign on for that job... which means DePaul will most likely have to look farther down their wish list of coaches... My Question is... would Porter be on a DePaul list of possible coaching candidates, and if so, does anyone actually think he would consider it????

My guess he would consider it. The pay increase would be pretty big.

They more than likely will want a name coach who can land the top kids in Chicago.

Porter is a Chicago guy. I am sure the DePaul job would be a step up big time in salary. Remember this though, he has turned Loyola around and has a couple of years on his contract. The key is security. While a five year deal at DePaul at $2million plus would be very hard to turn down, he would be starting over again and the real question is would he want to do that. Loyola should boost his salary and give him three more years added on.
We are lucky to have him.

I agree we are lucky to have him. Obviously he would not be one of their top candidates, but I could see them giving him a look. I also agree that short term it would be a big boost for him, but that Job is a very risky venture. I would be nervous to give an extension but I do agree that it's important for him to feel his efforts are appreciated here. Hopefully they would like to Illinois state or Northern Iowa if they try to poach someone out of the Valley.

Well, if DePewl has 2 Mill to toss around I would be amazed !! I truly do not see it. If they do, PM is not who they would be after. Crean , maybe--but why would he or someone like him go to DePewl ?? Cripes ! We as a school have more to offer. They will seel someone a huge bill of goods BUT then what ??

Its nice to hear that Porter's name is being discussed--I remember when our partners were ragging on him, cannot bench coach in the Valley, a loser etc--GEE ! These folks do not say that any more !!! Porter strikes me as a "stayer". He has a ton of work yet to do here.
