Comparing last year's roster with this year's, there are more than a few MIAs:

2013-2014 Roster

1 Sarah Stefaniu 5-5 G FR Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich
2 Taylor Nazon 5-8 G FR Chicago, Ill./Trinity
3 Cate Soane 6-3 C FR Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West
4 Simone Law 6-0 F JR South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic
5 Bailey Farley 5-10 G/F FR Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury
12 Katie Faught 5-9 G JR Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy
14 Erin Thomas 5-6 G SO Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton
15 Molly Crosby 6-2 F JR Auburn Township, Ohio/Hathaway Brown
20 Courtney Lindfors 6-4 C SR Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove/Milwaukee
21 Troy Hambric 5-11 F SR Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day
23 Becca Smith 5-8 G SO South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin
24 Ayrealle Beavers 5-8 G JR Grove City, Ohio/Harvest Prep

2014-2015 Roster

2 Sam Lambrigtsen 5-5 G FR Oregon, Ill./Oregon

5 Bailey Farley 5-10 G/F SO Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury
12 Katie Faught 5-9 G SR Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy
13 Katie Salmon 6-1 G/F FR Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa East
15 Molly Crosby 6-2 F SR Auburn Township, Ohio/Hathaway Brown
20 Courtney Lindfors 6-4 C RS SR Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove/Milwaukee
21 Ryaen Johnson 6-2 F FR Lisle, Ill./Bolingbrook
22 Destiny Washington 5-11 F FR Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North
23 Becca Smith 5-8 G JR South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin
25 Taylor Johnson 5-7 G JR Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East
33 Tiana Karopulos 5-10 G SO Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew
35 Cortney Williams 6-0 F FR Southfield, Mich./Southfield
50 Taylor Manuel 6-2 F SO St. Louis, Mo./Incarnate Word Academy/

Excluding graduating seniors, I count six players from last year's squad who are no longer on the team: Stefeniu, Nazon, Soane, Thomas, Beavers and Genge.

This is definitely worth looking into. I nominate ahunte1 for the job, as I am gradually transitioning into emeritus status as resident muckraker.

We had a lot of this go on when Jody Adams took over our program. It seemed to raise a lot of red flags as large numbers seemed to leave each of the first three or four years.

I think it's part of building your own team. You have to recruit a lot of kids and with 15 spots to fill, you're bound to get kids that aren't going to fit but you take chances. Also, I think some coaches push kids harder and expect more out of them than many on the women's side expect. You see it on the men's side too, but I think it's more understood. Also, with 15 spots, that's a lot of bench personnel and those at the end will transfer knowing they may never see time.

I'd keep tabs on it, but after a few years here the exodus slowed and player retention is much better. I think Coach Adams has established herself and what she expects and she has the players that can relay that expectation to potential recruits when they visit and when they show up. Players now know what to expect when recruited to Wichita State and I think this may be what Coach Swoopes is going through now. At least I hope so.

A lot of the players who left (Soane, Nazon) were freshmen recruited under the previous regime. I prefer this natural transition to the pre-emptive one that took place when Moser took over the men's program and got rid of players before they had a practice. I think Swoopes has a different philosophy than her predecessor, so giving it a year to see how things work out and whether players find a place in the system seems preferable to cleaning house before a coach sees anyone in uniform.

Although I have to admit because of circumstances I'm likely to give Swoopes more lattitude than I gave to Moser.

All I know is that Taylor Nazon transferred to a small school in New York and Cate Soane transferred to UIC.

I didn't see the Not Only the Men thread started by Galena in May.

I guess this is old news...

Galena's post didn't use the word Purge in the title, so it wasn't as attention-grabbing

Here are some other headlines I considered:

Massacre at Wounded Knees!

Walk-ons Run Off!!

She Swoopes to Conquer!!!

Women's Team Gets Moserized!!!!!

Women's Squad Walks Through the Missouri Valley of the Shadow of Death!!!!!!

As you can see, I exercised restraint and good taste in opting for "Purge in Women's Basketball?"
