The Loyola women's soccer team got a 1-0 win on the road in Richmond to qualify for the A10 women's soccer tournament beginning Friday. Loyola just got into the last spot in the tourney (8th place), and they had to get two wins in their last two games to do it-- one against a team in the tourney, and the other to eliminate a team from the tourney. At 4-5-1 in conference and 8-7-3 overall, this season was strong evidence of the step up in quality over the MVC.

The Ramblers won the last four consecutive MVC women's soccer regular season AND conference championships, and even with many holdover players BARELY QUALIFIED to participate in the A10 tournament. As a reward for 8th place, Loyola gets to face Saint Louis-- an undefeated 10-0 in conference and 17-1 overall; ranked #11 nationally; coming in at #9 in the RPI (Loyola is #101). Loyola played Saint Louis close in a 3-2 loss where they led at halftime and had an impressive 2-2 draw result only nine minutes from the buzzer. But there's a reason Saint Louis didn't have any ties in their 18 regular season matches-- they're really good.

On the men's soccer side, Loyola is 2-2-3 in conference and 6-2-6 overall. Right now, that's 7th place. The men really need a win in their last regular season match at Fordham (Saturday, 1PM) if they want a 5 or better seeding in the A10 tourney. Saint Louis and Duquesne sit atop the conference-- Loyola played Duquesne pretty well in a 2-1 loss in Pittsburgh, and but for an awkward own goal would have had a draw against Saint Louis on the road.

How about those Loyola women's volleyballers? The Ramblers are a perfect 11-0 in A10 play, with Saint Louis coming to town Tuesday night. Davidson is in 2nd place in the league at 10-1, and the Wildcats end the season with two matches at Gentile Nov. 11-12 that will likely decide the regular season championship and tournament seeding. Send the buzz out to everyone to be there!

With the A10 Cross Country Championship coming up Saturday in Richmond, Va., Loyola's Cross Country teams have been stellar. The men's team has finished 2nd, 1st, 1st, and 1st in the four events they've run in. Some of those events featured other A10 teams, and several Big Ten and power conference teams have run. The women's team has finished 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, and 7th (in a huge field with 38 teams). Keep your eyes peeled Saturday for the Cross Country results-- they might give us our first A10 Conference Championship before we hit November in our first year.

Thanks for the update JCT! Hoping to make my way down for a WVB game this week and one at the end of the season against Davidson!
