Loyola men's soccer, seeded 5th in the MVC men's soccer tournament, ended their season with a 2-1 defeat in Peoria at the hands of SIUE, the preseason favorite and the 4th seed. The Ramblers were scoreless until the last five seconds of regulation, when a furious offensive push resulted in their lone goal against SIUE. Loyola defeated SIUE in Edwardsville 1-0 earlier this year and were looking like they would be the fourth seed in the tournament, but SIUE beat undefeated Missouri State on the road on the last day of the season and leaped from 6th to 4th in the seedings.

Loyola was picked to finish 7th in the league in the preseason poll, and I picked Loyola to finish 6th. The 5th place seeding (almost 4th place, but for SIUE's upset on the last day of the regular season) Loyola earned in their inaugural season in MVC was an encouraging bonus, but fans can't help but feel a bit of disappointment at losing at a neutral site in the tournament against a team they beat on the road in the regular season.

So, congratulations on a nice season Ramblers. Hope we can learn something from the disappointment in the conference tournament.
