I think Randy is gone and gone to Iowa....An indication of what a quality coach he is and what a job he did here at LU. Randy gave LU plenty of chances to come through with promises made and not kept. It is one thing to get quality people another to keep them.

Neither the Track/Cross Country or Men's Volleyball coaches were "terminated." They were hired away by schools with much deeper pockets.

If Coach Moser had a highly successful season (e.g. reaching NIT or NCAA), you could expect a similar thing to happen. The difference is, in men's basketball Loyola might have a fighting chance to match a really high salary thrown at him by a larger conference school, assuming PEOPLE ACTUALLY STARTED SHOWING UP FOR GAMES AND PRODUCING REVENUE FOR ATHLETICS.

If you look around the MVC, Wichita State (avg. 10806 home attendance) and UNI (avg. 5379 home attendance) pay their coaches in upper six figures plus other incentives. We were at 1832 last year, the only school to average less than 3000. And a good 5-10% of our home attendance average (maybe more?) was opposing team fan attendance.

Now I know we have some special circumstances compared to Peoria, Carbondale, Normal, Springfield MO, Terre Haute, etc., but there's no rational reason for us to be below 2500. And here's another important point: in games where the home attendance was 1650 or more, we were 5-3. In games where the home attendance was below that, we were 4-4, and that was against mostly lower-quality teams (losses to Bradley, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, and Cleveland State).

In non-revenue sports, to be frank, there's not much we can do to fight off bigger programs (uh, like with football) that want to poach our winning coaches.

JCT you make some legit points but on the other hand LU has a limited amount of sports. If you are not going to truly try and compete by keeping and rewarding successful coaches and investing in the facilities to do so then go DIII. You have also failed to mention that the Golf program also got rid of their coach who had been working extremely hard and brought in really, really young coaches.They also apparently got rid of their girls coach, a well respected figure in Illinois Golf. You are probably correct if you are insinuating that budget is driving the decision making. I am not sure what the successful equation is but I think one way or another keeping successful coaches is part of it.

JCT, my apologies. I used "termination" and didn't consider that the coach chose to leave. Still, I wish we could figure out how to keep good people who are successful, rather than assume there will always be a bigger offer elsewhere. I guess we are a stop along the way rather than a destination for coaches.... I have to assume our student athletes know that too. Maybe that's just the way of the world in general.
