Christian Thomas has officially been inducted into my pound for pound Hall of Fame. Every time I see him play he looks shorter than the last time and plays taller. My other members are Nate Hayes a 6"2 shaker and maker along the baseline. Leading scorer in the early 70s. David Baily and Carl Golston. Any ideas for a 5th?. Qualifications are 1. plays beyond physical limitations 2. plays hard 3. is a main contributor on team

At a game honoring players from the 50s, I met Art McZier. I'm 6'1", and he stood about my height, maybe even a little lower. He was in his 70s at the time, so maybe his stature shrunk an inch or two. Nevertheless, the guy had 841 rebounds in three years for Loyola, at a time when they only played 25 games a year or so. He still ranks 10th on the all time rebounding list.

I've gotten to know Art very well over the years. He is an Evanston guy and now lives in D.C.
He looked after my Hannah during her days at Georgetown and is a Hoya season ticket holder. He kept an eye on her because we share a Loyola hoop bond separated by decades. How cool was that.
Art is everything you would expect in a Loyola man. He owns a food services company in the D.C. area. He worked with the Nixon administration to promote ground breaking black entrepreneurship programs. He career path from Loyola to present is one of the most interesting I've heard. He has been awarded honorary doctorate degrees from a half a dozen universities. If you ever get a chance to sit down with him take full advantage of it.

Art McZeir sounds extremely interesting. What position did he play at 6'1? WOuld not it be cool if he could give a talk to this years team about rebounding? I had forgotten about Sir Walter....

So Nate here's the rub of it. You now have people in charge who have no idea who Art is or what he could contribute not only to athletics but the university as a whole. My experience has been they don't give a hoot either. The arrogance is just too much to take. It's the my way or the highway and until they realize we are partners and not revenue streams I think success on a broad scale will prove to be elusive.

I agree that the deterioration over time in the ADs office has been devastating. The lack of connecting LU communities over time is also really sad and again devastating. However just like Art McZein setting rebounding records at 6,1 all things are possible.Hell I hear that the Cubs may field a team this year. I do feel optimistic about the new guy. My major concern is that there is a large gap between LU fans from way back in the day and recent "fans".
Also it only takes a couple of good years to restart the engine and this group seems to be on track to do so.
HOw did we get on this anyway,,I just wanted to pay some props to Christian Thomas and some other LU overachievers
