For those of us Ramblers that have matriculated outside of the Chicagoland area, can those that went give us a rundown on how the game went today? How does this years squad look against the all star team? Did this years squad/young guys look improved from last year? How did our old favorites look?

Thanks in advance to those that went.

Great time Great Game.
1. The starting lineup. was Rubin, Quinn, Dawson, Edwards and Housinsou (Des Watson did not dress but did not look like anything serious) Miles has improved around the basket developing a nice little floater with the left and the right. He played a lot up top with the high pick and roll fairly successfully. Quinn looks stronger and was finishing better around the rim also with a little floater...still not so hot from 3 (this is concerning) Dawson was very solid from 3 and at the hoop, Edwards was well Edwards..was cold early and heated up a little late...Seems he has to be set to be successful. Housinsou is a very athletic and looks like he can play inside and out and get up and down the court.
2. Other players getting major minutes were Moore, DeLoach and Nwaokorie
Justin Moore was by far the best player in the game for the current team..I am no longer worried about losing Brandon NOrris being gone.. He is super quick and super smart...several really good assists, steals and 3 point shots and also played some good D...DeLoach, Nwaokorie and Housinsou all look like the same guy...lanky, athletic and fast/ rt.saw any of them post up...but several cuts to the basket...offense this year may be different...all 3 could handle the ball, pass the ball and get up and down the court/
3. The 4 incoming freshman Glaskov,Hendaway,Turner and Young got minimal time.
Glaskov looks like he will be a solid wing, Hendaway was the one who impressed me the most...long, athletic and SUPER fast.Turner looked a little out of place but only got in maybe 4 minutes....Young had a great block but is fairly skinny and has some developing to do...My hunch is that Glaskov might get spot minutes when they need a 3 and if any of the freshman are going to break into some playing time it will be Hendaway.
Now for the OLD GUYS
Krutwig, Doyle, Norris, Ugag and Williamson started and played the most. Richardson. Tate Hall and Jordan Hicks got some major minutes. The old guys were good, good and good. THey could win the A-10. Doyle was ridiculous and WIlliamson lite the place up and Norris was Norris and Krutwig was Krutwig..Ben and Hall looked a little out of shape. Larry Knight was there but did not play and I cant remember the walk on from last year who got a standing ovation from the band (who was in mid=season form) Krutwig will be playing in Spain, Doyle in Tazmania...the Krutwigs and Doyle families were there. I asked Aher Ugak if he tried out for the Canadian Olympic team and found out that he tried out for the South Sudan team but did not make it. His brothers were there and we talked about the situation in the Sudan, those are some kids with very mixed emotions. Ben RIchardson is not playing professioanlly but is back in KC working in finance and doing some youth coaching.Every one of the old guys I talked to all said they could not express how important Loyola was to them and how happy they were to be back
THE GAME.
man this was not an NBA all star game..both teams played very hard. The battle between Krutwig and Rubin was intense. You could tell that each wanted the other to say..."hey you got game" I would give the edge to Krutwig but Miles blocked a shot or two of his and hit a couple of nice floaters over Krut..while Krut banged Miles around a little.....Every once in awhile you got some one on one intensity.Nwaokori showed some serious defensive chops in one possession where Milton and him went one on one at the top of the key for a good ten seconds with Miltion having to settle for a missed step back 3. Even though they did not keep score we kept a tally in the second half OLD GUYS 60 Current Team 55.. Was fun to see Lucas and Brandon coaching the new guys occasionally....
What does it mean for this year? One mans thoughts. This is an extremely athletic team,I think they will be 9 to 10 deep. I think Drew finally has the team to go as fast as he wants....I almost thought this was a track team...Was hard to say how skilled they were as they have not had a whole lot of practice time together and Des Watson did not play. My main concern was inside presence as they just do not have a ton beef ...If they want to run they must rebound...also defense did not look so good but again few practices and they were playing a team of mostly pros...I think they will have a lot of film to look over. The coaches could not be present but I saw them come out of the locker room right after the game...and the video was going up in the balcony...so I am guessing they watched the game and got film...60 points !!!!! next practice might be tough....
All in all was a great event...My guess is 500 people in attendance.....kids and coaches were all available after the game....and of course Sr. Jean was there. If you got questions or different opinions if you were there...fire away.....

I was there and had a lot of fun. We got there right at 3pm. Apparently there was a nice video montage showing great moments from all the legends. Wish I was able to see that. Would be cool of the Athletic Department would make it available somewhere!

Generally agree with Nate's assessment.

Of the freshmen, Seif looked most ready. Daniil seemed to have some confidence but was a touch slow on defense and had a couple dumb fouls. Turner and Young will likely redshirt, IMO.

Of the transfers, Justin Moore stood out. He had a really nice dunk--he has hops! He and JQ will handle the PG duties just fine. Agree that DeLoach, Houinsou & Nwaokorie all sort of blended in--will take time getting familiar with them. All seemed similar sized. I thought Nwaokorie looked the best on offense of the three--had a couple nice 3's, which is good to see from a 6'7 wing! DeLoach can bang around down low--we will need that physicality. Not remembering much from Houinsou's game, but I think he had strong defense.

Of the returners, Dawson & Miles both looked great. Miles should be 1st or 2nd team All-A10 this year. If Dawson stays 100% healthy, he could be too. My count had Dawson at 5 3's. Miles really had some nice floaters and looked much more polished. He also had a hilarious swat on Richardson, who attempted a fadeaway J on him. JQ looked a bit shaky at times. Wish he'd take it to the rim more. He will be just fine sharing the PG duties with Moore though. Sheldon was ice cold 1st half. Got pretty hot late in the game as the "Baby Ramblers" tried making a late comeback. No Watson, but he looked fine on the bench. Was coaching the team up.

Of the legends, man, it was fun to see those guys out there again. If Milton Doyle and Krutwig overlapped for a couple years, that would be a top 10/15 team. They both looked VERY good out there. Doyle seemed to be on a slightly higher level than everyone else, although he did get a little loose/careless with the ball at times. Krut was up to his old tricks down low, so fun to watch. Lucas had a fantastic 2nd half and led all scorers for the game. He was Mr. Clutch at the FT line down the stretch, quelling the Baby Ramblers' comeback efforts. Also played some intense defense. Braden had some big 3's in the 1st half and some very crafty passes. He will do just fine overseas professionally, I think. He also had a nice coaching moment with Seif after causing a TO on him. Aher had a big dunk and almost a massive alley oop. Surprised he didn't make the South Sudan team!

Ben & Tate both played defense well...maybe a step slow on the offensive end! Good to see Jordan Hicks out there, he's made quite the career in Europe. No Donte Ingram sighting--thought he was supposed to be there. Chris Knight didn't play, probably his choice.

Saw a few other 'legends' milling about on the sideline in street clothes--Carson Shanks, Clayton Custer & Phil Alston were all there. Sure there were others too that I missed.

Very fun event. Seeing the legends play definitely got me thinking about the possibility of a Loyola team in The Basketball Tournament. Dayton has an alum team. VCU does. Wichita does. Butler does. How do we get Loyola in there? The talent is certainly there.

The Des injury is a knee and he will be out for some time but doesn't sound as if it'll threaten the season.

Fun event. Felt like being at a family reunion. Per Steve Watson and Brian Day this can / will / should become an annual event providing there are enough alumni available and eager to participate. Don't think it should be any problem for a mid summer event.

$100 got you in.

$250 got you in + reception afterwards.

That, plus more all going for a good cause.

Reception was a good time, though felt as if it should have been in a larger room. Enjoyed conversations with AD, coaching staff, Drew, and others.

Agree on the TBT squad.... Milton, Krutwig, Lucas, Uguak along with a few others would be outstanding in it.

Lucas and Aher both keep getting better and better it seems too. :o

Both squads impressed greatly. Thought it be a romp one side or the other, but was close and competitive, clean and efficient game from both sides all throughout.
