One thing is clear from Loyola's first 16 days in the A10.... we need to up our Twitter game.

Loyola fans are still figuring out the personalities of the A10 teams and their fanbases, so some of it is shrouded in mystery to us as newcomers, but we got smoked on some good-natured (?) ribbing from active Twitter account from other teams. They've got some pretty active non-professional fan accounts that put out some high-volume, high-quality snark.

The MVC did not have a very lively Twitter community because so many of the teams came from small midwestern college towns, where there also wasn't a robust non-basketball Twitter community. ISU and Bradley were probably our top Twitterverse rivals in the MVC, mostly because 1/2 their fans came from the Chicago area.

We have a lot of good and capable people on Twitter, but our skills haven't been developed. Despite being the doormat of the Big East for almost a decade, DePaul has a better Twitter game than Loyola right now because they have to mix it up with fans from successful teams in big metros.

I know we can bring out game up to standard, and even impress. So here's a few things we need to do:

1. We need to get a little "edgier"... we never had much push-back in the MVC, because we were top dog for the past half decade, and Twitter (let alone Twitter smack talk) isn't much of a thing in the MVC.

2. We need to follow and support each other to build up the accounts. If you think you'd like to keep your personal twitter outside the mix, think about creating a Ramblers or Basketball-specific account.

3. If you're worried about getting started, find a role model account to emulate for attitude, snark, subject matter, etc. One of my favorite local twitter accounts is Nisei Lounge... they're funny, topical, gregarious, and effective.

4. Even if you're "not a Twitter person," create an account and follow some of the Ramblernation accounts to help the community, then mute your notifications. It's not difficult, and not very onerous. And it will help us fit into the new conference and figure out out new opponents.

Thoughts? Please chime in!!

Sorry JCT, but snark and smack talk just aren't my thing...
