I would not take too much from this article. As a Martelli fan, I was surprised to see how mediocre the program had become after Jamir Nelson left. Only 3 NCAAA appearances in the last 14 years of his tenure. The program was directionless during Martelli's last few years. Although he had a decent record in 2015-16, they finished 4th in the league.
The next three years he had two losing records and finished 500.
2015–16 Saint Joseph's 28–8 13–5 4th NCAA Division I Round of 32
2016–17 Saint Joseph's 11–20 4–14 T–12th
2017–18 Saint Joseph's 16–16 10–8 4th
2018–19 Saint Joseph's 14–19 6–12 T–10th
At the same time, Villanova was crushing it. I am sure the fans and administration were frustrated.
