When it comes to 2 point shooting percentage, LU has been spectacular this year. With one exception, every healthy scholarship player is shooting 50% or better from 2 point range, from the "Cobra's", King's 83.3% to Tony Nixon’s 50%. Only Milton Doyle’s 40.5% shooting from 2 point range is under the 50 % mark. [Note of hope: Alfredrick Hughes shot 40.1% his pre-3pt rule freshman year.]
As far as scoring per minute, or per 40 minutes played, there are some surprises. The players, who have played at least 10 minutes and scored more than one basket, rank as follows:
D. Turk 17.7 J. King 16.9 J. White 16.8 Thomas 16.7 Johnson 16.0
M.Doyle 15.6 Osborne 14.7 O’Leary 11.9 Crisman 6.4
As far as rebounding per minute, or per 40 minutes played, there are some surprises. The players, who have played at least 10 minutes and pulled down more than one rebound, rank as follows:
J. King 9.2 Osborne 9.2 Thomas 8.2 O’Leary 6.8 D. Turk 6.1
J. White 4.5 Dokubo 4.5 M.Doyle 4.4 Crisman 3.0
It seems that in addition to adding muscle during his redshirt year, the “Cobra,” King, moved his play up to a much better level than he played during the 2012 Italian tour. Hopefully, the Coach will continue his development with more minutes on the floor in preparation for MVC Conference play.
We need more support behind Osborne at center, with O’Leary continuing his play at forward and Thomas putting in minutes against the MVC’s wide-bodied guards like Evansville’s Ballentine and Wichita State’s Baker. The way wide-bodied guard Tulane Guard Louis Dabney took our guards apart was a warning.
