This year & more so next year - UNLESS WE BRING IN & USE MORE BIG MEN - LU will be a donut (a team with no center) with a lack of beef - with Uguak, Knight, and Hall gone, LU will only have seldom used center Jacob Hutson & seldom used forward Tom Welch left with some beef & possibly seldom used at LU or Indiana 6'7" 225 lb. Demezi Anderson if he is healthy.

The Ramblers are down to one center (6"10", 240 lb Jacob Hutson).

He played as a backup center only 110 minutes as a freshman (3.5 minutes average for LU’s 31 games)
but practiced against 6'9" 255 lb Cam Krutwig, one of best NCAA centers.

This year he had no center to practice against. He again played as a backup center 382 minutes as a sophomore (11.6 minutes per LU’s 33 games) behind 3 alternating power fowards: Knight (6'7" 225 lb.) 582 minutes (17.6 mpg), Welch (6'8" 220 lb.) 257 minutes (7.8 mp33games), and when they didn’t play, Uguak would slide over from power forward for 119 minutes (3.6 mp33games).

LU is loaded with returning & incoming guards & small forwards, but only 1 backup center & possibly 2 power forwards who have not been past starters.

IT IS TIME SO SIGN SOME MORE BIG MEN. IF WE ARE TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER TEAMS WHO USE BIG MEN.

The coach did well with the players he had this year but he needs to beef up for the Atlantic 10 & work on developing Jacob Hutson.

Agreed. It seems like the coaching staff has been talking to everyone who enters the transfer portal, but I'd like to see them really target a center. I don't think Welch and Hutson will cut it sharing minutes at the 5 next season.

as I've said before, I think they really missed out by not signing Avilla. He seemed like a Krutwig clone and there is no way he chooses Indiana St. over Loyola if the two are competing equally.

So, now they are stuck plugging holes for at least a couple of years.

I like the idea of Quinn from Lafayette. He seems too slow to play in a P5 conference. It seems like a perfect fit of needs between him and us.

I would not worry too much about big men. We can win and advance without a big man - other than Hutson - we need at least one.

Although big men can be useful on offense for points in the paint, they can be liabilities on defense unless they can run the court and guard wing players and guards. Look at the Purdue- St Peters game. If they can run, shoot and play defense, they are lottery picks. We are not going to see many of them because they don't exist.

most of the final 4 are 4 swing mutli purpose gaurds..small forwards....who can take the ball to the hoop and shoot the 3 and play defense......and the centers are mobile as well ...who can play inside and out. and protect the rim....switch on defense......At this moment we really lack all of those...with maybe the exception of Saint Thomas who is inexperienced.......Norris and Kennedy are really small guards...Johnson is a small guard..we do not know about Schwieger the younger and Schwieger the elder is somewhat limited mobility wise....Knight was not a bad rim protector and got better defensively on the perimeter as the year went along.....Hutson not very vertical or mobile...Some of these combos would probably be competitive in the Valley but as people have mentioned the A-10 is a different beast...agree Avilla is a mystery.... and of course all the players on the team have an off season to develop....
Anyone know definitively the status of Knigt and Schwieger?

I am concerned about Anderson’s leaving. We are now down to 2 big men, Hutson & Welch.

When he was in this season, power forward Tom Welch had a solid 7.6 rebounds per 40 minutes and shot a high 66% from 2 point range. Marquise Kennedy & he have played together for 3 years at LU in addition to being high school summer league team mates for a number of years.

Jacob Hudson more than tripled his playing time last year but he needs a big man to practice against & back him up.

LU needs more bigs badly for next year.

Looks like a great forward pickup for at least 2 years.

All we need is one or (preferably 2) more centers or power forwards and we should be ready for the Atlantic 10.

I, as swellafelon does, do like the Polish Hammer, but I think Purdue may be his destination.

Coach Valentine has exceeded all expectations with the last 2 commitments. There is no longer a hole in the middle of the donut & there is a good helping of beef.

I could ask no more, but maybe dream of one more big man signing to back up Aston if Welch is injured or has to back up one of out centers.

Again, great commitments by Coach Valentine.

The roster is filled ... it would be interesting to hear which player everyone predicts the Rambler's team MVP to be at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
