Ken Pom rates referees.
Haven’t found basis for ratings but Gerry Pollard, who has done several of our games is at #18
Refs from last game were ranked by Ken Pom at157 208 and 330! The guy at 330 has only done 19 games this season. Kinda weak for an important game?
How are they assigned?

I remember reading somewhere that Saturday Valley games will generally have lower quality refs because basically every conference has a full slate of games. The big boys will get the better refs.

Ken lays out his logic for the metric here.

Looks like they aren't based on any "hard" data such fouls called, but essentially an estimate on how many "good" games they are assigned to based on KenPom's anticipated "Thrill Score" Metric.

"FanMatch: The game that had the highest pre-game Thrill ScoreTM. Note that these games may have sucked but they were the ones we would have expected to be the best match-ups based on the information we had at the time."

Our "Thrill Score" for tomorrow's game against SIU is 30.0 and the #21 out of 34 games. KenPom has us favored by 12. For comparison, the top 3 games tomorrow are Arizona/UCLA (85.6), Michigan State/Illinois (70.5), and Texas/TCU (69.1). The lowested rated game is Yale/Columbia (9.8) where Yale is favored by 19 points.
