From Shockernet about an hour ago:

Quote:
Word I got is that Marshall's resignation is forthcoming. The word is from someone connected to the money behind Gregg

Is it too soon to audition the "Porter to WSU" rumor?

I wonder if Porter is in the mix as Marshall's replacement?

I'm actually kind of surprised by that news. I didn't think they'd go through with it.

As for Porter, I'm on record saying that I'd become a fan of whatever Big 10/Power 5 school he went to (except Northwestern and DePaul obviously). But if he goes there, screw him. I can't stand that program and fan base. Quite frankly, I don't think he'll even get a chance there because their fan base probably would be just as against the move as I am.

My guess is they promote an interim head coach on their coaching staff and hire a permanent coach in April. Hell, can you really expect Porter or any coach worth their salt to leave a good team 2 weeks before the season starts to rebuild at Wichita State?

So far I have restrained myself from posting Swellalicious smack on Shockernet but I don't know how much longer I can resist the temptation.

As for my Porter to WSU speculation, I only raised it because Trump retweeted it a couple minutes ago.

That's exactly the right thing for any school in this situation to do. The first reason is that this be a wasted season if they brought in a new coach because there would be no time for him to implement his culture, scheme, or hire his own assistants. The second and possibly more important reason is that by not hiring anyone right away, they have a huge advantage in the next coaching carousel by having 4.5 months to evaluate potential candidates and do their due diligence. They'll be interviewing coaches while other schools are still rounding up buyout money from their boosters. Plus, in this environment, I suspect that less jobs will open up, making Wichita State's more desirable than it might be in a more normal year.

I actually think that there will be more openings this year because the schools that should have fired their coaches last year (Minnesota, Texas, BC at least), will fire them this year, plus the other coaching carousel casualties. Adam Zagoria is pretty on the college basketball beat, and he says it'll probably be chaos come March. https://www.forbes.com/sites/adamzagoria/2020/04/11/how-coronavirus-is-keeping-the-college-coaching-carousel-from-turning/?sh=7ddcd3ce5829

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better.

From Shockernet less than an hour ago:
Quote:

Shockers Unfiltered on FB is reporting they fired him for cause today. The rumor is things got contentious and Marshall had to be escorted off campus. Just FB rumors. I cannot substantiate it.
