if he doesnt use it on a transfer, I really hope he gives it to a walk-on like he did for Dokubo a few years back. Makes for a good newspaper, feel good piece and helps out a kid who has gien years to the program with little glory. |

Is that true that he can only take a transfer, though? I’m thinking of instances like the kid who recently got out of his LOI with SLU. I’m assuming he’s still going to be playing for somebody as a Freshman this fall. |

Here's the relevant passage from the article: Quote: Moser already has 12 spots filled for next year, but can only fill the final spot with a transfer student. He can’t sign an incoming first-year because the player would had to have signed with Loyola by May 16. May 16th was the last day of the regular signing period for National Letters of Intent (NLI). So it is true that Loyola can't sign an incoming freshman to a NLI, but that doesn't mean we still can't offer him an athletic scholarship. If we did, he'd just sign a Financial Aid Agreement but not a NLI. I believe we may be pursuing someone who fits this description in Mickey Pearson, a recent high school or prep school grad who reopened his recruitment late after signing with St. Louis. Nothing gives this Baby Boomer more pleasure than to criticize feckless Millennials and clueless Generation Zs. So let me add this observation.. Not only is the Phoenix article factually inaccurate, it offends me with its tin-eared political correctness. I didn't catch this the first time I read it, but on the second reading I picked up that the author used "First Years" for "Freshmen". Apparently the Phoenix has consigned the term "Freshman" to the dustbin of history as being sexist and insufficiently gender neutral, even for an article about the Men's Basketball team. |

He uses “first-year” in his other articles too lol. You’d think someone who writes about college hoops would know you can still fill scholarships with freshmen after the NLI deadline. |

Kinda confused about what part is incorrect exactly? For what it's worth, isn't first year a term that would better suit kids who could come from a prep school? Whose credits may not necessitate someone who's a traditionally in freshman standing academically (on top of an age difference); all while being considered a "first year" player in terms of eligibility. I don't have a dog in the fight, just seems like a non-issue to me haha. They also definitely haven't stopped using the word: |

Blers, You are being disingenuous in proposing that the article uses the term "First Years" as merely a more apt and descriptive term than "Freshmen".
