Congrats to BM for being officially promoted today to full assistant position, which means he can officially go out on the road recruiting. I know it was bandied around in an earlier thread but thought it merited a new thread altogether. Plus, it's nice to see we're keeping the staff intact rather the turnover/exodus from early in PM's tenure.

I approve of the promotion, but I wonder who is going to coach the bigs?

I think this is a good promotion but I was also hoping we would have a coach to help with the bigs.

Gordon?

I mean you don't have to be a former forward to coach forwards. Nate James probably coaches the forwards at Duke, but at 6'6, he was hardly a "big" in his playing career. Other than James, there's been a slew of former Duke guards as assistants under K (Capel, Scheyer, Wojo, Collins, Dawkins, Amaker, Snyder). They don't seem to have any problems coaching and producing forwards.

As to who Porter will hire to replace Mullins as Director of Basketball Operations, I would like to see a former Rambler get the job, somebody like Andy Polka or Jordan Hicks or Ben Averkamp. I doubt any of this trio would take the job if offered because of the low salary (http://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/direc ... KO0,33.htm), but I think each of them would be an excellent candidate.

I'm not sure what Jordan or Andy are doing, but wasn't Averkamp (and Gibler too) planning on med school? I think Jordan would be a more likely choice as he played for PM unlike Andy who graduated in Whitesell's last year. Of course though, Jordan was far from a post player...

I'm not sure what CT's plans are for pro basketball in Europe, but he would fit a few criteria for people on this board (Former Loyola player, post player) who being right out of college isn't going to scoff at the salary and might also find this a good opportunity to come back for LU's 5 year MBA program.

Another interesting thing about this promotion: Mullins can now recruit for LU. It was Mullins' father who was Roosevelt Smart's AAU coach that was the connection that opened the door in our recruiting of him. And again, I guess this is only contingent on if we're still open to taking Roosevelt back or Roosevelt is still interested in us.
