Barker doesn't have a page on Verbal Commits, and doesn't show up among the offers from Albany (as stated in the linked article). So it's unknown about the level of our interest or whether we have an actual offer out.

One of the players we DID have an offer on, Proviso East's Kalin Fisher, committed to Hampton today. That's probably due in part to the Custer transfer. So Harrison Niego is the last 2015 offer we have listed. Alex Peacock, who I liked but didn't get any D1 offers, ended up going to Iowa Western CC.

With Custer unable to play in 2015-16 and only one more scholarship available, I still feel good about getting another big guy and relying on White, Richardson and Doyle to do ball handling. A tall guy with some mid-range jumper capabilities (as Barker is described as having) would be a good weapon to have in breaking apart zone defenses, and with Christian Thomas gone, we need someone to make those on a regular basis. I'd also like to see somebody like Ingram work on perfecting that shot during the summer-- he has a decent outside shot and gets to the basket OK, but his mid-range needs work.

EDIT: PrepBullseye just reported that Nate Navigato officially received his release from Buffalo, so that's another possibility.

This article says that Barker came over from Australia to join Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts in mid-January of this year.

I'm beginning to think eligibility issues might need to be resolved before he signs his LOI, such as taking and passing the SAT and making sure he has sufficient high school credits. I wouldn't be surprised if Loyola arranged his stopover at Notre Dame to get him eligible for next year.

If we did that, why would we want him all the way in Massachusetts ?

When reading a bit about Mr. Barker, I saw that one of his teammates at both the Oceania Pacific Championship and the adidas Nations tournament was Tad Dufelmeier. Seasoned Ramblermaniacs, like myself, certainly remember his dad. I am continually amazed at this shrinking world!

If I remember correctly, Dufelmeyer was one heck of a free throw shooter. Wasn't hit something like 80 consecutive successful free throws in a row.
Another guy who may have played on the same team was Tim Shaw.

According to his Twitter account, Barker as I post this is flying back to Tasmania, so I don't know what the frick is going on with him.

Attended the men's volleyball game tonight and heard from a very reliable source that there was a signing of a juco point guard from the East Coast.(State of Maryland)
Assuming this information is accurate, that would end the scholarships for this year.

To muddy the waters some more about our last scholarship, here is a photo from Callum Barker's Facebook page, apparently taken April 15th:
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =1&theater

What was he doing in Chicago on that date, which just happens to be the first day of the spring signing period?

Also note his comment that after spending some time in his hometown of Hobart (Tasmania) he will head off to college in June.

What college would that be?

I am beginning to think that streak's report of our signing a Juco point guard from Baltimore may be erroneous. It just doesn't seem to check out. If I had to guess, I'd say it's more likely that Callum Barker got the last scholarship. But I admit I am confused.

A possibility which comes to mind to resolve the dilemma might be that Loyola has parked Barker at a safe junior college (Coffeyville?) for a year, and thus still has a scholarship to use on a juco point guard, as streak reports.

(Thanks to ahunte for inspiring this possible solution.)
